Exhaust Pack recommendations

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by yorkshirecampers, Mar 16, 2013.

  1. Very exciting week for Arthur next week - we're picking up his new lump from daaaaaaaaahn Saaaaaaaaaarf (upgrading from 1600 to 1776).

So now I'm looking at exhaust packs...does anyone have any recommendations (as I really don't know what I'm looking at...!)

If it helps (!) he's a 1976 and the engine is (fairly obvs) a type 1.

    Mwah in advance

  3. No idea, but I'm quite excited for you getting your new engine! Look forward to hearing how it performs as its probably what we will upgrade ours when the time comes :)

it is pricey Zoe but it will help the engine breathe and assist releasing those horses from it!!

Someone once posted a test review for lots of different T1 engine exhausts. I don't think the small flange header 4:1/muffler came out all that well, but I don't remember what did!
You wouldn't like the look of my exhaust (not shiney), but it was a lot less than £100.

  7. Problem is, you have to be careful what you put on these days, as the 5-0 will make you change it if they think it's excessively loud.... more of a noise nuisance than an actual proper dB limit o_O But they'll go down the route of the exhaust not being type approved at the time of vehicle manufacture!!

So if you are going aftermarket, the quieter the better!!

Can you tell I've done some research since my tug from the fuzz the other day?? ;)

  8. Good job it wasn't a tug of the fuzz Paul

  9. Stupid question alert:

I am looking at exhaust packs and I can either find type 1 up to 1600 or type 4 from 1700 up. Presume the 1600 one isn't sufficient...but then it's not a type 4. So what I am looking FOR?

your motor is a type one, I doubt it matters about the engine size so a standard zort system will do but it wont release the gains you have made from a stock to a 1776 with twin carbs - the engine wont release its full potential hence the JK system!

I've got a beetle silencer on mine. It has two tail pipes so breathes better than a bus one. Rather than pea-shooters, I made 2 bent round tail pipes by cutting the middle from a stainless bus tailpipe and using the ends. Sounds nice, cost pennies and works a treat.

Ive got to admit to liking the look of these build ups, the twin pipes suite a bay

  14. If you can volksworld done a group test on a load of type 1 exhausts not sure if you go online you can ask for a copy or find a old mag with it in at a swap meet,

And it tucks right away to you can barely see it which I like. For me an exhaust doesn't come under the heading of "something to make a feature out of". Same for wheels. It's a personal thing.

    Thanks Woody.

Shame they didn't compare to standard - maybe they were all worse and they didn't want to pee of the advertisers!
