Engine in but no fuel?! Help!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by mattw, Mar 9, 2013.

  1. Just got my engine (t1 1600)back in with no dramas.

It is cranking fine off the ignition but I am not getting any fuel through the pump.

I am getting fuel to the pump but not to the carb. Any ideas why?! Cheers,

    Matt

pipes on pump wrong way round. ;)

  3. So the top one should be the input and the bottom the output?

    Oops!

He-he. I did the same when I rebuilt my first T1 in my shed.

  7. Mine is a shed build too!

Although I have just swapped the fuel hoses and still no fuel.

Do I need to suck it through?

No. You haven't left a clamp on the hose?

Changed the pump but not the rod?

    paradox likes this.
  10. Didn't change the pump, took it off to have a look, didn't touch the rod and put it all back together again!

have you taken the outlet off the fuel pump to see if its pumping from there

  15. Turn over and get the oil presure up and give it a squirt of easy start or WD (does wd work - dunno) down the carb to get it to fire should drag some fuel through. Check you fuel pump rod isnt bent and is actually operating (pump off).

  16. pull the fuel pipe off the carb and pop it in a bottle... crank until you get fuel in the bottle!!

    Sometimes they can airlock :)

I take it you have actually got petrol in there?
    ;-)

  18. Yes but I'm beginning to think not enough. Also I am parked at a slight nearside slope so away from the pick up.

    Off to Esso....

  19. Now the battery has cranked too much and lost juice.

Thime to charge get he battery and try again!

  20. Right, after lots of cranking I'm finally getting fuel to the carb however the battery is now losing charge so I'm stopping tonight and will try again tomorrow afternoon once the battery has had a long time to charge up.

Hopefully it will start now otherwise you might see another Mech & Tech post!

Thanks for all your help so far
