Engine Bay Fire retardant Boards Possible Group buy

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by z4alfie, Jan 8, 2013.

  1. The engine bay boards in my bus are knackered, they've got bits missing and they sag and let the whole job down badly. You cant get them for the Late Bay with the engine bay inspection hatch because Ive searched (although Im happy to be corrected).

I've spoken to a bloke who has said he can make them from a template (happy to use mine) using fire retardant boards. He's done them for pre 71 Bays and they look really good (IMHO) but to get a good price he would want to produce in quantity.

I thought if I could gauge interest we might get a good rate for a group buy.

Who would be interested? subject to price of course. The prototype bay ones are about £65 plus postage

  2. could be interested in these 8)

  3. I'm interested, need to replace mine before I fit my firetech

  4. I'd be interested but I'd need to see some pictures. :)

  5. Good idea.
I've been (slowly) working on some that will be made from polycarbonate with leds sandwiched between 2 sheets.

  6. Dam that's expensive , I made mine from 3 mm aluminium sprayed black ,will never sag

I bet you could get them made by a sheet metal company in ally for a lot less than that

  7. I'd be interested.

Would like to see what they would look like and know a rough cost please

  8. Pic of what were talking about if poss. May be up for this too.

  9. Glad theres some interest, I take the point about the cost but they are not available anywhere else and he will need to make them from scratch etc. Here are some pics of the ones he makes for the earlier bus, I think they look really good.

    Keep the interest coming.

  10. Dumb question but what do these do ? Is it sound insulation ? My engine bay roof does not have anything.

  11. Yeah Rachams on EBay, £60!
They don't do the early ones though with the cutout for inspection hatch?
Z4Alfie, who's your contact for the early ones fella?

  12. Typical, I search for a year and then someone posts a link to some.

Has anyone used these german ones? they look like the cardboard type that I've got but have fell to bits. I'm thinking I like the look of the heat resistant wooden ones if I can get them made although theres a big difference between 28 euros and 65 quid......

  13. Always glad to help ;D
