  1. Hello.
I can't get my throttle set up right after much fiddling.
The problem is if I have the cable set ok for "off" then when I put the pedal to the floor it's no-where near "full on". It's maybe only half on.
I have to have the carbs already a few mm open at the idle speed stop in order to get anywhere near full throttle after pressing the pedal.
I've added another inch to the lever at the front, where the cable goes in, so the cable is now about an inch further out on the lever. (Thanks guys on my "losing power under load" thread)
I've also replaced the gubbins under the pedal for a new style rod, so it is definitely adjusted to go right to the floor. Although I do notice there is little movement here (under the pedal) between fully on and off. I'm assuming each end of the long horizontal rod (in a tube about a foot long, on the floor, running from under pedal) are fixed so there's no chance this could be set wrongly??

Can I just move the idle stops???

    Help! I'm stuck!!

Hex bar, or centre mount linkage?

  3. Thanks for the quick reply!
They seem to be set ok, same angles as they were before I did anything to disturb them.

  4. Thanks. Hold off a bit... I've just gone over everything and where I've lengthened the lever by attaching another one to it, it looks like the now wider lever is catching and not returning fully. Just got to set lever up the other way around. Will be back in half an hour...!
    Here's hoping.

If you lengthen both adjustable link rods to near their fullest extent, and then re balance the linkage, you will be able to get more throttle moment.

  6. If you mess with idle stops , it'll mess with idle .. dells should be set so the butterflies are on the idle stops with a 3 thou feeler .. engine should idle with no linkage attached ...post some pics

  7. As above, are you centre mount or crossbar? I assume crossbar.

  8. I thought this was about Dell computers ... sorry I can't help I know more about computers than carbs (and that's not much)

  9. Hi all, sorted the accelerator. Plenty of movement. Getting almost full throttle now, so hopefully just a bit of minor tinkering needed. With the pedal full down the LH carb is more shut than the RH. They are balanced at idle, so I certainly won't mess with idle stops.
    It's a cross bar.
Will try for pics, but phone (i.e. camera) not working at present. At least the van's driveable!

Took it for a spin and it does feel like carbs not balanced.

  10. After looking again at the cross bar it needed tightening a bit as there was some sideways movement.
I've read the Dellorto Tech book and there's one question I can't find answered there...
If everything is set up correctly at idle, is a lack of balance at speed entirely down to the throttle linkage set up?

  11. The Dell "pairs" should mechanically balanced on the shaft so they both open at the same time, unless the shaft is wonky. Any small inbalance can be taken out with the air bleeds, if you've got them.

  12. My guess is you haven't the correct offset filter bases ... pics would sort it

  13. Having trouble resizing pics on iPhone. Too big!

  14. Email them to yourself. You get the option of resizing prior to sending. Select an option less than 1 meg.

  15. I know but the email on my phone won't work, so I can only take photos on the phone but email on the computer!
    I'll borrow someone elses...

  16. use tapatalk .....

  17. Can you open them fully manually to see how far the linkage is turning?

  18. Looking at the pic,s
What's the hose clip on the hex bar for ?
Try to set the engine bay side first then look at pedal side after.

    You can try this:-

Engine off, remove air cleaners showing throttle butterfly flaps inside carbs

Disconnect the accelerator cable at the hex bar side and let it sit where it sits.
Check for excessive play in linkages.
Loosen the two Allen key grub screws that hold the arms nearest each carb, to hex bar, with the screws loose hold the arms and by twisting the hex bar check for wear movement, if there's play that will cause issues, allowing one arm to sit higher or lower on the hex bar.
    Retighten the grub screws
Turn the hex bar to full throttle by hand and adjust the adjustable rods so both throttle flaps are fully open the same.
This may take a while, as you have to adjust both
Release the hex bar and note what happens, is there movement or play showing in the linkages .
I suspect that you have worn hex bar joints/ linkages which are allowing one carb to open more than the other.
