If it wasn’t for those rounded ended date boxes, household Bryant and May matchboxes and sticky backed plastic, how else could Blue Peter have made those little model barges?
Liquorice is for people who remember the Blitz and still darn their socks. And wish there was still rationing. And knit itchy wool balaclavas.
Natural dates are delicious, but all too often the pack houses cover them with sweet sticky gloop and spoil them. I lived in Oman for a while and dates are a big industry for them and they grow many varieties of dates with different colours. Back in those days, the 80's, the villagers in the remote interior would crop them and dry them on the roofs of their houses. Liquorish I don't eat now, but interestingly the shrub can be grown here in gardens.
Used to love dates, the sticky ones in a balsa wood box with a 2 pronged fork. Can't eat them now as too much potassium but good to see they are still in the shops and not been taken away because of some lefty pinko yogurt weaving environmentalist has decided they are bad for you/me/the environment/they might offend someone.
when I was a kid, that's a long time ago, you could buy dates in a compressed block, they were good and tasty and perfect for cooking with.
You can still get these . I made some vegan brownies with em not so long ago. Very squidgy but tasty. Er....I'm not a vegan by the way
