We didn’t at all have the least restrictions in Europe.

There has to be some way forward as the economy is tanked and getting worse...self isolating can’t be forever.

If the flights in threat was that prominent we’d see prominent thick traces of people with this infection starting at the airport then following roads and rail away from each.

    We don’t.

I’m agreeing restrictions should have been stricter at airports, it’s common sense (unless it’s your family or kids stuck on their own in the middle east etc) I suspect that’s its not been acted on as the horse had already bolted.

    now there’s a surprise o_O

  7. The Bangladesh flight was a one off repatriation flight but to let all and sundry from around the world into Heathrow without even a cursory temperature test is unbelievabley stupid in my `umble opinion .
Being in SW That London i can see the activity to and from Heathrow , there`s not much happening to be honest but it wouldn`t take much effort to have someone laying down the law re distancing and a couple of officials zapping people with a digital thermometer .

Big govenment fail - no surprise there

  8. I think the way Authorities here in U.K. se it,
what’s a few more ! And assume that everyone in U.K. is either infected or could be infected by carriers anyway
as long as the underfunded nhs stays under the R which they do by saying politely stay indoors please !
Knowing full well that they don’t have enough police to make us .
And they also know it was here in Europe last December ,
as that Parisian Doctor said

It's interesting to note the scientist whose advice led to Boris Johnson introducing lockdown measures to combat coronavirus has resigned from his government role after he breached the restrictions to meet his married lover.
Professor Neil Ferguson allowed the woman to visit him at his home, despite the lockdown, which he has continually said is vital in stopping the spread of the killer virus.

My spies tell me there will be more "outing" of virus hypocrites in the coming days. I don't know how to take this - age old knob following or he doesn't really believe his own advice? It definitely does not help.

  12. Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted is a fair description of our Government's handling of the pandemic. So now we are stuck with it and desperate to reduce the spread and locking us down at home and separating us from each other may be the only way for some time to cut the infection rate. Its hard, its tough and we are grateful for the thousands of key workers that keep us safe and help us. But this virus is not curable and a vaccine may be a year away and none of us want to catch it and possibly be killed by it, so we have to look after ourselves as best we can and stay locked down.

The Government are desperate and latching on to any measures, App or whatever, to reduce the infection rate which if it rises out of control would be catastrophic to the population.

So I think we will have to see how this new App works for us and accept that civil liberties and privacy issues will be a price to pay. I see Corona as a silent war, we are not being shot at or bombed but being killed by something equally deadly that we can't see.

What amuses me is the large amount of sensible people who (like me) locked ourselves down and social distanced waaayyy before it became the official advice. Now what I see is these same sensible people still ahead of the government advice easing themselves sensibly out of the lockdown to social distance mode.

The advice and info has been lagging behind the reality of both peoples behaviour and the spread of the virus from the start by at least a month, I think that's widely agreed? The unpoliceable advice given doesn't really and never did expect full compliance so was deliberately "over the top". You know the old saying, if you want to borrow £100 ask for £200 and you'll get the £100 you wanted.

Old folk like MGBman (and me - how did that happen!) are BOUND to be the ones strictly adhering to the guidelines because of the far higher risk of death we face and the ease of living within the guidelines if you are retired. I'm afraid the younger you are the less medically serious this scenario must appear, but also the harder it is to sit back and wait as your family finances fall off a cliff that could take years to scramble back up.

I believe the faster we get to the new normal the better. We "at risk" oldies can hunker down for years if necessary but I really don't see the point of wrecking everyone else's lives, we've got the message - be careful around the vulnerable, you might kill them by mistake.

    Yeah, I know - simplistic.

I think it may be to early to compare death rate levels between country's ...as we are at the beginning of this war on virus .
We are bound to have a second wave of death's when lock downs are in full swing worldwide ...bit like going over the top in ww1 ...it could be a success or a total catastrophe .
The big boys on this battle are the scientists and i am sure they will all be hard at it ....the gusto and drive for success must be highly obvious if we had the opportunity to view them in there work place .

Keep up the good work guys ....all you out there worldwide .

There's only one way to find out and us oldies can continue to sit it out and see what happens. Again - the sooner the better for all concerned. If it goes badly it won't be difficult to flip back into the careful mode we're all now used to?

We in the South West are in for a bumpy ride.
We’ve had very few cases mainly because we are sensible and followed the guidance but once restrictions are relaxed The 2nd home owners will flock back it’s going to hit the fan.

    Tin hat philosophy...

There are two doors. Behind one is the answer to the secret of life. Behind the other is pure evil. Which would you open?

The answer is neither. The reasoning is that by accepting the choice you are accepting the possibility of letting evil out to ravage the world.

We don't need an app in the UK be it NHS or Google/I-phone. It's usefulness would have been a couple of months ago, it's too late now.
So don't be suckered into a gamble that could have far reaching negative connotations. Besides that it's only Barry who will download it. :)

    Too deep?

  18. I agree the point about younger folks seeming to have a more relaxed attitude to self isolation and social distancing. An example today, neighbours opposite in their 30's with 2 year old and a new born, lady friends come round with their kids and they have a 'door step' party without any distancing whatsoever. As an oldie practicing self discipline of the lockdown rules, these folks in my view were reckless. I feel sorry for the husband out at work all day fitting kitchens and working hard to keep the money coming in and doing self distancing. And Thursday evening they will be out clapping the key workers.

Meanwhile us oldies will stay locked down for some time to come. Yes the virus has hit old folks badly, but it has killed a lot of younger ones as well.

  19. On the local news there was a report
About a care home on the Isle of Wight
The manager had her team living on site in tents
These carers have taken the attitude to remain on site and given up their families etc
It’s probably the only way to go!

Now to me Testing millions of people
Is about as effective as a moody MOT
effective only for less than a day

    Still
