Covid tracking app

  1. But can’t apps be tricked ? Dumbo puts silly info in and ................?

This one's just going to follow you round and report to head office if you get too near someone. Head office will then decide if you need sorting out. The alternative follows you round and tells YOU if you're near any zombies.

It had to happen one day!

Just to back you on your point on 911 - America passed the homeland security bill - this allowed, and still allows the US government to have unfettered access to any data held by a US company on US land - I'm not sure if this extends to data held by non US companies on US land, or US companies on non US land (though this last one I am fairly sure isn't accurate as Microsoft and others made a big song and dance about first opening data centers in Amsterdam and Dublin, then opening one near London post Brexit for Government clients).

Some examples of how this affects you - home 'benevolent' systems such as Alexa and Dot store data in the cloud - where the servers for that cloud sit is usually where the cheapest power sources are, so primarily near hydro electric or ground thermal heat sources.....I'd nominate places like Colorado, USA.

Alexa is ALWAYS on if powered up and connected to the network - how else does it monitor its 'wake' word? So are all your conversations stored, including the ones where you didn't think it was on? I'd bet they are. If they are stored in the US, they are also then available to the US government.

Facebook is very open with you don't own your own data, so pictures etc, they keep and assume rights to.

Most of NHS, UK Government and private sector use WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is a Facebook company. Facebook are also subject to Homeland security bill.

Did anyone read their terms and conditions of its use? Apparently the inner workings of the UK government is discussed on WhatsApp - Boris Johnsons medics may well have discussed his illness with others on WhatsApp - and we are surprised by Trumps insights?!

Why does any of this matter, right now?

Because all of it is voluntary - you simply don't own, or switch all of that technology on.

Andres Brevic (child killing coward) should have been spotted as he didn't have Facebook (i.e. he should have appeared on a list for NOT having facebook). You can't buy airline tickets with cash, and if you stay in a hotel, they make a note of anyone paying with cash, You can't buy a phone, or SIM card with cash and/or without ID.

We are moving quite quickly to an age of unknowing consent.

The phone has a GPRS chip that you can't touch to 'fool'. It also uses GSM signals from masts, and Wifi from near devices to locate itself.

The only way to fool it is to put it in a faraday cage.

I'd not be surprised if that isn't sufficient in the future - if they allow face recognition, and/or access to the cameras and microphones on a mobile phone, they can probably track you by where you aren't as factually you are occupying a space that no one else is - in build up areas you just follow the black hole.

  6. That's actually a good article.
In principal it's a good idea buttttt.
Right now your phone is unlocked and blue tooth on its broadcasting as you need it to be.
Locked and apple phone cuts off BT Android takes a few mins apparently. Unless you have given permission ie your car or headphones.
The NHS only works when you open it I believe so rubbish.
Google and apple have been snooping on your location for whatever reason they are experts and should of been tasked with doing the tracking like other countries have let them.
The big kicker is *they* track us anyway but they won't let on.
My work stuff is tracked within 2 feet of it's location all day long every day even if I'm not at work so the apps are already out there. Maybe they just want to data mine the UK population for a year or two..
Or maybe just stop the pandemic ?

  7. One wonders why stollen cars arnt found then ? How many employees do you need to run a police cctv room ? They couldn’t find Ronnie biggs could they :D sorry still need humans to tell them what to do init .

You'd be surprised what data new cars share:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-51466273

Location, which doors were open, which seats were occupied, for how long etc. And that's from a car without a 'tracker' security device. I worked a bit on JLR 'Connected car' - it was originally conceived to assist with parts ordering, updating the computers and warranty - but it tracks and stores a LOT of data.

With facial recognition CCTV you need far fewer people in a CCTV room.

You are making my point for me tbh - there are fewer and fewer of human owned pieces in all this, and that shrinks each day.

  11. But the biggest point is sooo what , they can’t put the perpetrators in prison without people run court rooms etc  not enough room soooo what’s the point of all this watching everyone’s moves . MONEY ?? But if people havnt got any then where do they go . I know there are hackers on here but why are they so nosey ? Why is everyone so nosey :D

  12. I can fully appreciate your concerns , however , all this is just a smokescreen .

On the subject of controlling the virus , it`s become an absolute joke ...

A colleague of Lady Lasty has been working in Bangladesh for the last two years , (managing a factory out there) and opted for a govenment repatreation flight back to blighty , arriving yesterday . Not wanting to get into details but the flight was almost full with Brits returning `home`, from a third world country .
Everyone disembarked with the usual shoving, through passport control followed by customs and out into the reception area with a few stupid people cuddling and bringing the family along to meet and greet - all despite a police prescence and requests to keep a distance .

Not even a temperature check and now they`re free to get on various busses / trains then maybe decide whether or not to isolate - and that was only ONE flight !!

Arrival with NO CHECKS whatsoever ....

I`ve been off work , without pay for over 6 weeks now and really trying to `do my bit` but this is getting beyond a joke ...

Ok - let me play you a scenario.....

Small and large businesses, when interviewing someone have to bare scrutiny that they harboured no bias in the interview process.

Now, given that the above could cost money if they are sued, it's in their interest to only interview people that are really close to what they want - and that is usually able bodied, sound of mind, consistent, capable - so they will check social media etc. before even issuing an interview invite (e.g. if there are pictures of you being sick in a bucket in work after a heavy night out on your facebook, and they see it, you aren't getting an interview). They don't even issue an invite to anyone not in that criteria.

Appreciate the above isn't 100% covering all small businesses - this is a scenario.

Say you have a child with autism - you'd want that child to have a fair crack of the whip, so you'd expect them to have an interview chance at least.

But - our esteemed government have all the data on autism, and all the kids with it, that they either sell, or unwittingly leak each year, with your kids name on it.

Are you telling me that your kid would get an interview chance?

What about if you'd had counselling following a breakdown, would you want that information leaked even before you submitted your CV? What about if your private love for Donald Trump was suddenly shared with everyone at work, or the school governers, the PTA? How about your private conversations on immigration are shared, without your knowledge or consent?

The 'Law' is the last point along a pretty dodgy road, there are many potholes we need to be mindful of as a society.

Finally, regarding the law and courts - ever wondered why so many accusations lead to fines and nothing else - well, most honest citizens will pay a fine and its a simple interaction with machines. Complex cases cost money, so they gradually start breaking them down to a point where it automates.

Imagine you just drive down a bus lane - with the tracking app they know it was you, they know it was a bus lane, and they know you weren't in a bus.

Reckon that little bit of income would be ignored?

  14. Why are you telling me this ?? I couldn’t give a ........... I’m older and wiser . To many bizzy bodies pretending they are working and getting paid too much to achieve nothing . The only truth is .....the world will end and we will pale into insignificance . Our own greed and want will destroy us . Why don’t I give a ...... because there is nothing I or we can do about it

  15. It`s all a load of tosh ...

The app will be taken up by millions hoping to lessen their chances of croaking when in fact all they have to do is self isolate for as long as it takes , a fact proven by various countries with far stricter isolation restrictions than the good old UK would ever dare .
If the monitoring was via a little black box offered for sale the take up would be minimal . As it`s available on a toy that nearly everyone is glued to it`ll be seen by many as a way to get out yet avoid catching the virus . You`ve only got to look at the knobheads having a few days away at the coast ....
We have the highest mortality rate in Europe and the least restrictions - figure that one out , it`s not rocket science ...

  17. We are in this mess because of international aviation, thousands coming in on hundreds of flights, arriving here and not being quarantined or tested. And it only takes one infected carrier on a flight to infect many others and those poor folks would have no idea until 4 days later when symptoms appear, but by then they have had contact with many others strangers and family and so the infection spreads.

@Lasty is so right, and it seems today in the news the Government has accepted it should have restricted incoming flights and quarantined passengers. Sounds to me they know there is a huge risk with these incoming travellers but they do nothing about it, so our infection numbers and deaths are way above other countries.
