Didn't I read once something about the oil cooler obstructing air flow over the left hand cylinders slightly. Making that side hotter? Maybe I dreamt it!
That was on the old SP engines with the oil cooler within the actual shroud, opposed to on the back of it in the dog house
Last time I did this I was unwittingly dragged into an intergalactic war. You can only imagine my surprise. I can I advise caution.
Thats what I'm worried about... And why the engine is coming out. Mm. Think I will have to hang my wife out the back of the van while I drive it down the road She can take the readings at different speeds!
I'm going to check a few things I think. Nothing blocking the cooling, check the valves are moving freely. And for any signs of damage I guess.
Mine is a type 1. and more than 10deg. Thanks for checking though I hope not! Just done a rebuild, new barrels and pistons. Mind you, I'm going to check that stuff when I get it out. I will keep you all posted!
Update. Think the problem is solved! Fitted the engine today, and been for a long drive, and no issues so far. What was the problem? Not sure! But it could be down to a few things. 1. Carb manifold gasket. I had cheap ones fitted before, came with the kit. When I took the carbs off I noticed that the left hand side was a oily. Right hand side was nice and dry. So wondering if it was leaking air a little. Replaced these with nice felt gaskets. 2. Cooling flaps part closed. Not really sure about this one, but just in case I have locked them permanently open. 3. Carb jets. I read the as standard the ICT 34s come with wrong jets. So I changed them to the following configuration - 55 ideal jet, 135 main, 170 air correction and F6 emulation tube. I also fitted new gaskets on the tops of the carb, maybe it was also leaking. Now she runs sweet as a nut! And no boiling of fuel in the carb. So I think I'm in the clear.
