I used a 1600 thermostat but I just got a length of bike brake cable, threaded it through the brass nut and tied a knot in it. No adaptor needed. I'm assuming the type 4 nut doesn't fit directly onto the thermostat?
No the threads are different from memory but we machined a small adaptor to go between one and the other, which did the trick!
Another difference being the number of "vanes" , if I remember the t4 stat has two more ? Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Possibly plus some of the t2 'stats have different opening temperatures (I recall reading somewhere way back).
Type-1 open at 65-70c Type-4 at 85-90c You can buy new from Awsome Powdercoat in the US of A https://www.awesomepowdercoat.com/vw-thermostats Interestingly, I note they sell the plastic cup bits for the Type-4 flap rod, I've never seen these for sale anywhere before. Down the page on the above link.
€31 from Lithuania, https://shopcar.parts/en/autopart/112093/110685-021119159a-thermostat-assy-(coolant-thermostat) the part number is correct but that might not mean the part is correct, and they might not have any available. They are the same as the ones Globus had for sale a few years ago at €150 https://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/nos-thermostat-type4-2-litre-wahler-021-119-159a.66036/ I have asked ShopCar.Parts for availability.
A friend with a CAD program, a pair of calipers for measurements and a 3D printer with e.g. nylon filament ?
I doubt if there is a UK supplier but there are plenty for sale in the US. Just search for the part number (021119187), here's one: https://sierramadrecollection.com/products/bearing-shell-plastic-clip-911-914-70-77-p32271 But a 3D printer would probably be cheaper by the time carriage and charges are added.
Try Megabug they might have one ..used to have a second hand range of all sorts . I got the flaps and bar from them .
i did at one point think about manufacturing them as its not difficult but i have too much other stuff that takes my time ..
Has anyone imported one from Awsomepowdercoating recently…what are the additional charges? According to the Government website, they should fall within the allowance of £135 for paying additional taxes.
A few years ago the total cost was about £180. I remember the total because it hurt but I don't remember what the extra charges were made up from.
