  3. Yep I'm afraid so. I've got a smaller kinzel clock fitted to a blanking plate that has lived there since I bought my bus. I've been after the real deal for years but never wanted to risk the ones on eBay etc that stated untested or no info either way. I've been caught out I accept that. I'm a believer in doing the right thing, obviously not every one is.
Its a shame because I was so happy with he way it looked

  4. Stupid question, but my clock did this and the problem was the push button you press in to move the hands was seized in the 'pressed' position, thus stopping the hands moving, are you sure yours isn't doing this?

  5. Good thinking. If the thing's trying to pulse, implies there's nothing wrong with the electronics. Something's mechanically stuck somewhere.

  6. This is my thoughts too. Having the other clock has taught me this, there's been many a time I've made an adjustment and not knowingly fully released the push button., but alas not in this case. However it may be along those lines rite enough perhaps internal misalignment or something similar. I'm still holding onto the hope that the chap hasn't knowingly ripped me off and it's something simple.

  7. I'm really hoping this is so. The push button is totally free in its action and functions but it might be soothing along these lines

  8. I expected this type of comment Baysearcher , happily this is the first time I've been caught short by a fellow VW owner/trader it's quite a small world and usually the devious ones are routed out fairly swiftly.
VWed is right maybe I was a silly not testing immediately, it would have only taken a minuet but believe it or not they're hard for me to find of late.

  9. Does the clock work if you try and turn the hands around by hand?

I'd say either send it back (a bit disappointing) or take the back off and try and fit another quartz moment (cheap). Only issue is likely to be whether the hands fit and the setting knobs work.

  10. All mechanical parts seem to work fine the button moves freely and springs out the hands engage and adjust as designed.
It's now with a horologist so I'm waiting for him to give me the low down.
I'm probably a bit of a sucker but if I can I like to try to preserve as much as possible especially when I've got a soft spot for it. If it's a write off I've given him my other Kienzel clock to use as a donor mech. If it's repairable I'll sell the Kienzel to recoup some of my costs.

  11. No unfortunately not. The website is still there and it looks like he's still fully operational. There's no reason to not contact me as my email was very honest and open, I even went as far as saying I was interested in keeping the clock rather than refunds etc. I gave him all my contact details. He was very communicative when he was selling! I bought the clock, OG westy tow ball cover, OG table brackets for putting the table outside using the jacking point.
The jacking point he had actually put on eBay so that I did buy through that medium.
He has nothing on eBay now though.
We live and learn that's 1 in five years so I still believe we're made of better stuff in VW world

  12. I've given this some thought and I'm actually morally torn. I thin I'll PM you it as he may just feel it's tough s@@t as I've had it 1.5 moths as some on here do too.
I'm more disappointed with the non contact. I'll PM you my email so you can be honest with me as to weather my opinion that I've not been off putting is correct. If you think otherwise and I have been I'll take it on the chin.

  13. If it was fully tested then the chances of it failing after 1 1/2 months being sat on a shelf must be pretty low so say the least.

  14. I know but I do accept that I was stupid not checking it but I'm a trusting fella. However as he hasn't contacted me at all he may well have gone silent back then

Have you got the guys phone number?
A phone call is much harder to ignore than an email.
Most of the smaller more specialist suppliers of VW stuff are terrible at responding to emails, if they ever even read them.

  16. It could`ve bust in transit , when you tried it or it could of never worked ..... sometimes you have to put things down to experience .it is a 30 odd year old clock , shame hes not getting back to you though . if it was me id rather refund all monies and take it back rather than get a negative name . if you buy any used part you generally only get offered 30 day warranty

  17. All of this is true I fully agree. I've made it clear in my email that I'm not after a refund and I accept its taken me 6 weeks to get time to fit it.
I've given him all my contact details and left the door wide open for him with no malice implied.
He was fine at communicating when we were sorting out buying it.
