Hi all, unhappy camper here I bought an OG clock for the dash for highish price, just got around to fitting it and it's broken The second hand just ever so slight pulses back n forth any ideas? Any where to fix it?
You need a Horologist, Google one in your area and give him a call. if he cant help himself then he will know someone who can... They're like that...
I've contacted the company that sold it to me (no reply as yet) and a horologist who I'm seeing today but he's guessing £90 + I'm not impressed as i bought the thing as a fully tested working item at a price that rejected that, if i add £90-110 on top I'll be very unhappy.
As it appears to be a quartz one, you could try fitting a cheap quartz movement from Maplins. Only a few quid.
At the risk of sounding harsh you should have tested it as soon as you got it - after all it is only a 2 minute job to connect it up to a power source. Then you'd have more clout getting back to the seller straightaway. I won a clock on an eBay auction a few years back. It was delivered circa lunchtime. I tested it immediately - it didn't work, I posted it back to the seller that afternoon and got a full refund. Testing via accessory socket:
I bought it from a shop/dealer "fully tested and working" In hind sight you're correct of course hence my shout out on here for any tips etc. I got it late November so it's a month and a half. I still have sent an email to the trader (wasn't eBay) and I've taken it to a horologist this afternoon. I'm all for keeping the clock rather than refund but I'm suggesting he might want to make a contribution to the fix. Wether I tested it or not he sold it as fully tested and working he is a legitimate full on business so I had no reason to doubt him.
I agree you've only had it a month and a half it should be fine. Not like you've had it for years and only just got round to fitting it (like most of the stuff I buy )
They are quite complecated with a printed circuit board and silicon chip, I can fix the earlier ones but not had any joy with these ones
Its a nice clock, but has a fault which you have found 6 weeks after buying it. I would definitely complain nicely to the seller and wait for a response. Its a grey area. I bought a 1954 Hornby Dublo loco off ebay and it was guaranteed fully tested and working. I did what you did, left it for a few weeks before running it on the new layout. It ran slow, due to a weak magnet. I was disappointed but it is a nice loco, I bought and fitted a new and better magnet, I contacted the seller and he refunded the cost of the magnet. I think you are right in hoping for a contribution for the repair. I note the clock wasn't off ebay, where sellers are bound by the rules.
