Brake Pipe Route and Layout

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Marc Mears, Dec 18, 2012.

  1. Does anyone have the correct layout and route for the copper brake pipes?
    Mine is a 1978 T2
I have purchased a pre made kit (usually make my own – but this looks like and easy solution – probably not!!!) and as I have stripped out the old pipes last year (they were probably in the wrong place) I have forgot the layout. Doh.
    Thanks

  2. from memory, the main run from front to back goes from the break compensator at the front through the front cross member, and runs along the inside of the nearside chassis rail, through the rear cross member carrying on along the near side chassis rail for a short way. Then along the top of the torsion tube to the 'T' block.

1 short length then goes from the 'T' block and clips to the bracket on the torsion tube (off side) just above the hub arm (not sure of the correct term - the big bars that go from the hub to the torsion tube)and one flexy hose straight from the 'T' block ....they then connect to flexy hose from there from memory

cant remember the front layout off the top of my head

  3. Together with Ds description of the run this might help.

  4. The problem i have is there are 3 outlets
2 at the front and 1 at the back of the master
The back one goes to front right and left brakes
The 2 front holes in the master 1 goes to the compensator
But where does the other go
If you look at the drwaing above, the pipe no 43, is the one i have no clue as where it goes.
What would make more sence is the two at the front go separately to the front brakes and the one at the back went to the compensator - but
All the drawings dont show that.
I Have run out of ideas
    Regards
    Marc

i think the nearside front one is for your brake light activator switch ?

from memory i think i only have two pipes connected to the mc and one brake light switch .

  7. The brake light switch is in
I do have 3 no brake pipe out lets
    Bit odd
If you look at the pic above you will see a pipe no 43 and thats the one i dont know

On very early bays like mine, he fronts do indeed have seperate outs direct from the M/C.
You should have two brake light switches, one for each part of the dual M/C, is that it?
I just servoed mine and as you say, the rear outlet goes to front where it T's off to each brake and front outlet off to the back for same, 2 brake light switches and that was that.

  11. Just had a look at it and the m/c has 1 no brake light sensor and 3 brake pipe outlets

The master looks like the pic above but has an extra outlet next to the front one

When i took it off i chopped the pipes off but left the tails in the master sos not to get crap in while it was on the shelf
A bit of a mind bender

  12. If you see the pic above it has a blank flat side - thsts where my extra outlet is

Then you need a brake switch front and back, that'll sort it?

  14. I feel Zedster tells the truth. You need at least one brake light switch, as there's no other means of operating the brake lights.

If you've got two orifices on the side of the m/c, that's where they should go. Should leave you with the correct number of holes for brakes front and rear.

  15. If i take out the brake light switch i will have 4 holes to fill
As it is ,i have 3 brakes pipe entries and 1 brake light switch
There must be an answer to it as it came of my camper pre resto
Oh dear its going to be an odd one
