it's a good job you didn't jump straight in with my suggestion to crap in their desk.

  3. im sure they do it so 50% of people will start looking for new job and get one in 12 months so they save on redundancies!!

Do you get the opportunity to do any 'resettlement' courses to retrain for a different career? When I left the RAF under redundancy the last two years before my demob I was hardly at work at all, I was always on one training course or another.

  7. No ,can't understand (nor any of my managers) why they have made me redundant anyway ,one of the few that knows the whole supply chain from the store ordering the product all the way to it being delivered at the store ,I cover all the legacy systems as well and one of three that does out of hours for them?
Maybe they are going to outsource the support like they did for the bank?

  8. All fate see, what more could you of asked for, job until you get your licence back, with perfect timing to then go on your trip you wanted! Now to get through the next 12 months - best of luck dude, and on the plus side in that 12 months you will now be earning and be able to get all those little jobs done on the van you can't normally do due to using/needing it

Maybe you're a pawn in a political thing where they have to be seen to be making some of the white collar dudes redundant so they can lay off a load of others further down the pile (this year). Yours may never come after the situation is reassessed next year, 12 months is crazy!

I had to form a ltd co to keep my job once when I was in this situation. I had to be given the push along with others, but they needed me so I became a supplier of services to get round it.

You could become that source of outsourced sauce. You have a huge advantage as you already know the job inside out. Keep your ear open, ask questions because if you miss the chance to tender that's that. You will have to find out who's choosing who to invite to tender.

  13. At my last redundancy the company used a loop hole called Toupe' (spelling?) which is a government procedure to safeguard your job. Which means if your job is transferred somewhere else you have to move with it. This could be anywhere (mine was 70 miles away) and if you refuse they have filled the legal obligation and you receive nothing because you have refused a position! If you do move with the job the new company could make you reduntant on day one but they will have to pay the redundancy payment. Its a awful minefield and a win win for the company but not the person and the new company could loose out, but they will be looking for other reasons to remove staff. Do check out your legal rights.

  14. It's TUPE I believe - as you say you need to be careful especially if you have to move home.
