Been looking into campsites for a few cheap weekends away and I am sure the prices are getting higher and higher - for minimal facilities ... What happened to the good old cheap sites where you could stay a single night over a weekend rather than have to do 2-3 night etc ...
Yes there getting more expensive Then again i remember when a campsite was a toilet block and a water standpipe in the corner of the field Nowadays they have hard standings, showers, wifi, hookup etc etc and people turn up with great big caravans and massive awnings not a car, small trailer and a frame tent
It all depends where you want to go! We have a sit local to us which costs £10 per night with hook up - High Laning in Dent charges £18 per night for hook up but there are showers, clean toilets along with excellent scenery. It all depends what you want from the campsite - basic camping or a bit more comfort
Its not the daily rate that gets on my norks, its the increasing popularity of minimum booking lengths!
They're deffo getting more expensive, especially in the UK compared to France, but then again, the popularity of camping has soared in the UK over the last few years, so I guess there are fewer pitches available in relation to the demand, hence why prices are going up. Having said that, I agree with Paradox... you get what you pay for, which explains why I'm always disappointed to find I'm in a rough field with a portaloo in the corner !
French sites are generally cheaper than ours and have facilities that put ours to shame. Even municipal sites and aires are great. Give me camping in France any day over camping in the UK.
ive also heard of some sites refusing vans/buses ? mate says its because the owners (read the daily mail) think all bus/van owners are pikeys ?which is kinda funny as those people usually drive (ime) top notch transits /suv mobiles.
just been away for 3 nights and the best part of 4 days total cost £30 one we often stay at right on the river bank is £8 a night you just need to know where to look
I just wish you could turn up somewhere for a night - pay £10 per person and off you go... So many are minimum of 2 nights over the weekend which is not always practical
that's a good post, we joined camping and caravan club so we could use Damage Barton site near Woolacombe, jolly good it is too, but we cancelled subscription few years ago as not been recently, also I don't agree with min 2 night stop they do, 3 at Bank Holiday. it's camping, carefree if I want 1 night and travel on that's what it should be. also the Scarbourgh site worked out couple of years ago family of 4 over Bank Holiday Nearly £35 a night.. that's nearly 100 quid... local site to us £8 a night.
I barter with them as I'm on my own ,rarely pay over £15 with hook up ,if they say no I go else where. Last place in Rhos was meant to be £20 per night ,I paid £15 for the first 2 nights then offered them a £10 for the last night.
There's an independent site in Small Dole that we always stay at for Brighton Breeze - that's got hookup, and is a lot cheaper than some of these prices you've all been quoting. The cheap simple sites are out there, you just have to find them.
This is true and a little research goes a long way. I think a lot depends where abouts too with places like the Lakes being very expensive and often Cornwall being fairly competitive. Want to camp near a main town etc then you will pay more because it's convenient. Happy to stay a little further out from the beach or town then you can get good prices in my experience. Wales I find a bit hit and miss, but then there are bargains to be found.
what racks me off is charging for dogs, why? they don't use showers or go in the clubhouse! it's not as if they put anything on for them to do, hidden charges annoy me.
i tell you one thing though, i get my moneys worth out of the hook up if i pay too much..... heater on in the awning with the doors open sir? you bet your pretty little ass!
