Bung the holes up and cover it over. Keep it dry and get well soon.

    Crikey.
Hope you heal quickly, and that the bloke who did it is feeling bad enough to never ever do it to someone else.
    Take it easy.

  5. Take it easy and heal well Rich , one reason I stopped riding on the road many years ago - too many bellends but as you know , it comes with the territory...

Blimey, I saw the pics of the bike and thought that’s not too bad - then I scrolled down. Get well soon and forget about the engine, if it’s somewhere dry it’ll be fine.

  10. Yep, luckily I managed to swerve around him to avoid a full blown impact but I think he just clipped my rear panier and tipped me off so damage is restricted to one side. Crash bungs are worth every penny and saved alot more damage
Ok cool, the engine will be dry in my lads unit so I'll just get him to wrap it up in bubble wrap til I can get on it again.
He did offer to finish it off for me but now I've got this far I want to do it myself. Can't have him stealing my glory ;)
Got some light work bolting bits back on and installing tinware so should at least be able to get onto that in a few weeks time.

Put a blanket around it, before the bubble wrap.
    Moisture, sweating, etc.
I rebuilt a type 5 tranny engine, years ago. I put a couple of blankets around it then completely wrapped it with a cheap proper job tarp. Sold it this year.Unwrapped it… perfect as the day I wrapped it. It had been kept outside since at least 2013. ( started about 5th time, it now powers a local ice cream van. ( need it, this Somerset heat)

Excuse my ignorance, the nearest I have got to a bike was a Honda 50 when I was 16, and I have no idea what crash bungs are. But if they have saved you, or the bike, from more damage they are worth having.

  14. These are crash bungs from photos my lad took for the insurance

They ve took a beating but saved most of the fairing in a tarmac slide situation, useless in a full head on impact :)

Good reason to take a break - get better and spring / summer camping is ages away - no rush.
