And your type 3 tin, to keep your barrels cooler…;)

  2. Hi Snotty..... I can't see any suppliers in the UK for these? Where did you get yours from?

I don’t think there are any suppliers in the UK. CSP list them but are out of stock.

AFAIK it's either a pre-loved one (you'd be lucky) or Awsome Powdercoat in the US of A.

  5. I resorted to Ebay - around £25 + post.
Make sure you get a complete 'L' shaped one as there's plenty of broken ones out there , they break across the corner very easily if someone gets a bit cack-handed...

    Velocity ring. :)

  7. Limebug, I think, but does seem noone does them in the UK anymore :-(. Awesome Powdercoat in the US do seem to be the only ones.

  8. No! Stop asking the bloke down the pub.

  9. Some folk are lucky enough to have a real one, a shroud with the ring already in place. Believe @scrooge95 has one, possibly @paradox .

I was casually looking on eBay at people who were selling 2nd hand fan shrouds, mostly around the £25 mark... spotted one that had a velocity ring welded into it, so was very precise with the seller as to which of his wares I wanted!
Had to butcher the shroud to get it off and attach it to my modified one, but was certainly worth the £25.
It's worth looking, as some people don't realise what they've got!

  11. I picked one up a couple of years ago - you guessed it - Ebay...
Sellers often list them as you would a normal fan housing but looking at the pictures you can spot one almost immediately...

EDIT... couldn't find one at the moment although there is a guy selling the repro 'L' pieces - search for VW tinware and you should find it

  13. Did Alex chop it off and weld it to your "new" shroud?

I detached it from its £25 old eBay fan shroud, and then got it blasted and powder coated, before indeed getting Alex to weld it on to the new "modified" shroud.

  15. Right folks, I know I've been working at a snails pace anyway but things are gonna get even slower for a bit.....
In my usual fashion of making jobs for myself, I've now trashed my bike on the way back from working on the bus at my lads, courtesy of some idiot who pulled out on me in order to save 10secs on his journey home  IMG-20231116-WA0000.jpg IMG-20231116-WA0003.jpg

Luckily crash bungs saved massive damage but unfortunately I'm gonna be out of action for a while, probably til after Christmas ...... 5 broken ribs, a broken collar bone and a punctured lung. Could have been much worse. PXL_20231116_172341614.jpg

  18. I think I might be getting too old for this biker lark with the idiots on the roads nowadays.

Thanks for everyone's help so far, I'll start a new thread in the new year to continue bus saga with more daft questions.

Just one more question for now tho ...... If it's gonna be a few weeks til I get my rebuilt engine in and running, do I need to do anything to make sure it's ok when I do?

I got taken out when riding my FJR1300 in London a couple of years ago. T bones the car that pulled across in front of me and I landed about 50ft down the road. Ligament and tendon damage to the right leg which I'm still suffering with.
