Accuspark fitting

  1. Should the rotor arm still be moving all the way around when it’s in place ? I think it’s aligned properly, it moves around so far then clicks then you can move around again. When it clicks the rotor arm is facing towards the hatch . I can’t seem to get it down any further into the hole , I already had to tap it in with a soft hammer to get it past the rubber o ring.

  2. The dissy drive dog should be properly engaged in the driveshaft. On a proper dissy, turning the rotor anticlockwise shouldn't be possible if it's properly engaged. Clockwise, it should turn a bit (the mechanical advance), then stop.

    Don't know about Chinese ones.

At the bottom of the dizzy there is a slot that's off centre make sure its sitting in the slot properly.

  4. The black ring with the magnets in for the sensor isn't pushed down far enough so rotor arm isn't sitting far enough to catch either.. stick a big socket over the ring and give it a tap...

  5. Ok I’ll get the hammer on it again tomorrow! They are a tight fit! And the copper ended part of the the rotor arm should be facing cylinders 1 ?

Remove the O-ring and fit the distributor so you can see and feel when it properly engages in the drive slot. Take note of the position, then re-fit the O-ring; you shouldn’t need to use a hammer on the distributor.

  7. The black o ring does seem to be the problem it fits perfectly until it meets that the o ring then won’t go past without some persuading, there’s just no room for leverage !

  8. Yeah but gently or you'll have a dissy full of bits of plastic and magnets .. rotor arm cam point anywhere depending on cycle but with flywheel at 0 will be at 1 or 3 on the cap

You haven’t got the distributor down far enough in the hole. Remove the O-ring so you can see how deep it goes and where the rotor arm points, then re-fit the O-ring. Hitting it with a hammer won’t end well.

  10. ^this. Sounds like the dissy isn’t engaged in the driveshaft. Do the dogs on the dissy and on the driveshaft line up?

  11. It s hard to now if it lined up exactly as it’s such a struggle to get it past the o ring! I will try again tomorrow and remove the O-Ring first and then make a note once it’s sitting properly.

  12. You'll definitely get a feel for how it locks down into place without the o ring.. unless your rotor is goosed that is! If it is then you can throw it over Snotty's fence onto his EMPI collection...

Line it up and it will be easy to fit, no need to force it and if you do you could damage the distributor. To make installation easier use oil or petroleum jelly/Vaseline on the O-ring (don’t use grease). And you might want to replace the O-ring with the proper D section ring, although the O-ring that Accuspark supply will work.

And definitely replace the rotor arm and cap with good quality parts; the ones supplied by Accuspark are rubbish.

  17. We're on different o rings ... I'm on about the one that the accuspark picks up the magnets in sits just below the rotor..

I know you are :) but he hasn’t got the distributor located in the drive yet – at least I don’t think he has.

  19. Have you got the clamp on the distributor or bolted to engine ?
I have had them tight to fit if the bracket is left bolted to the engine because its
slightly out of line so the seal catches the clamp.
    Just a thought .

  20. Ah... I assumed it was just fitting an accuspark in to a dissy.. not fitting an accuspark dissy... as I had a bugger of a job getting the rotor arm to sit properly at first when I swapped out the points
