Here are the door gaps. The back is looking ok as is the bottom, and top isn't too bad. Front isn't great though so think I'll end up spending some time on that later.

Cheers mate. Going at it with a fresh head helped. Ended up with 2 shims under bottom hinge and jacked door up to lift it on my own. Think half the problem was me trying to lift the door and tighten the bolts with 2 hands.

  4. ye it does help if there's someone to give a hand;) but iv learnt to do it all on my own now a days :) i bent my hinges so that i didnt need shims as its easier to fit door on your own:rolleyes: ;)

I didn't fancy bending them but that'd defo make it easier. There isn't much on these buses you can't do on your own!

  6. if you want to bend them just use a big adjustable in the middle of the hinge and tweak it ;)

Driver’s door skin welded up and trial fitted to the van; a much better fit than the passenger side. Now onto the front arches and wheel tubs!

I'm so fed up of the bloody thing today. Spent hours getting the a pillar gap for the passenger door better. Realised I've not had the sliding door on whilst gapping the passenger door. With the sliding door closed the B pillar shifts slightly meaning it then hits into the cab door.
Think I'm going to have to take the B pillar outer off and redo do it. Sliding door has me baffled again as despite it hitting the b pillar enough to move it the rear gap is still really tight. Hate it

  10. I've been watching this thread and look forward to each new post. You are an inspiration to us lesser mortals who just dream of being able to do what you have done. Don't despair, me I'd have been off for a curry and copious beers ages ago!
    Keep inspiring us
    Cheers

Cheers mate. Think I just needed to sleep. I spend so much time trying to get this thing done and think I just hit a wall. It'll get there.

Now that I've calmed a little does anyone have any thoughts on sliding door adjustment? It seems that the front mech is pushing the B pillar forwards towards the front of the van which suggests the door is too far forward; but it can't be as the rear of the door is nearly hitting the rear panel and the gap at the front is huge.
Is there any forward/backward adjustment in the front mechanism (it's like the mechanism hits the striker plate too early)? The striker plate doesn't have any shims under it either. I still think the outer b pillar may need to come off, but it may be that the slider just needs adjusting.

  13. Not sure @JamesLey that your b pillar should allow that kind of movement anyway as it's structural, how hard do you have to shut it to close? The leading edge of the sliding door should hit the b pillar first and then the rear tucks in last so that sounds ok. Deep breaths mate, I had to take a front arch off and redo it cos of door alignment.

Yeah I agree it shouldn't be moving enough to close up the front door gap. I have to slam it pretty hard to shut it. Might try taking the front striker plate off to see where the door naturally wants to sit without it in place.

  15. first thing measure top of sliding door hole top :thinking:then bottom should be same .sounds like b piller to far back may be. but the b piller should not be able too move ;)

  16. You could try adjusting the rear roller assembly on the door so it's closer to the centre of the door. That may pull it back a little, it may take a few goes though if the rear edge is close to the c pillar anyway. How much of the b pillar did you replace?

  17. I think yours is a panel van conversion like mine, have you got the correct mechanism? the factory window catch / striker / mechanism is different to a panel van one. I replaced my panel door with a factory window one and had to source all new parts.

Also is the sliding door in good order yet? Hasn't had a dodgy Re skin in the past?

Cheers. Will double check it all before I think about what to do next.

Will try that but I suspect it may foul the c pillar if i move it back more. I had to replace the b pillar outer up to the bottom of the cab door as someone had bodged it.

Oh that's a thought. Ours is a panel van but I suspect the slider is a factory window one as the inside of the door has the recessed bit for the window (from memory don't panel van sliders with holes cut for glass need a plastic surround added to the inside to make it look neat?). Which bits differ for panelvan and factory window door bits? I wonder if we have a factory window door but panel van fittings. Do you have any pics?
