1.6 twin carbs

  1. You can choke down the 40`s to work on a 1600, dells much easier to keep running, Webber's great, but very sensitive to setup and balance, dells a little more forgiving.
Have a look at eurocarb good guys and will help you with the correct jetting etc...

^What he says. I have ICTS on a stroker with a hex bar linkage. The devils combination! Tighten the lock nuts and they goes out of sync. Get it perfect, next day it's drifted off again. I'm saving for Dells and a Bell-crank linkage.

    NatchoNatchoMan and paradox like this.
  3. I will stick with my single solex and T manifold. Slow and reliable that me! Just to be unfashionable .

  4. 36Dlra's ,make a bid difference to the feeling on my 1600

  5. From what I have read Dellorto 36's are the way forward alll the way up to 1776.

  6. I have this posibility in mind...should I need to use the stroker (which is destined for another vehicle at some point)...large capacity stroker with 34mm Dellortos should make for a torquey package if jetted appropriately.

  7. The dells have the ali hex bar (althought came with a plastic crossbar !) and once set up never budged. Previous owner sold them to me for a song as he couldn't get them to sync or idle. Once I'd replaced the horrid linkage and actually fitted return springs they ran a total treat :)

I need to find someone like that. Yes it's torqey with the ICT's, but the high rev power's a bit faded.

  9. Your all going to tell me my new carb is the wrong thing now aren't you. :(

  10. Which ones did you buy?

  11. Weber 32/36 single. Currently got original dual solex

  12. I'd regard going from twins to a single, centre-mounted carb as a step backwards. Might be an ok carb, but you've still got a horrible, long manifold.

  13. I can't get the twins set up right and fuel consumption is awful. In fairness, considering how much my dad knows about engines, my bus just isn't running right.

  14. My 2l bus came with twin Weber 34 ICTs and am happy with them, but they benefit from regular balancing (which is easy with the right tool) and I need to check what jets have been fitted. I still have the stock vacuum dizzy but read that twin carbs work better with either mechanical advance or SVDA dizzys... does anyone have any views on this? Would a SVDA dizzy help bOdyrOck2OO6 with his fuel consumption?

  15. So what sort of power are we talking with twin carbs ???

Would not having a single carb and a turbo be just as good ??

  16. SVDA is vacuum advance... It stands for single vacuum dual advance :) The dual part is that you have mechanical advance in your dizzy too and not just vacuum!! :)

  17. Turbo systems on these actually work better with twin carbs too... It's all about putting the fuel in as near to the valves as you can!!

Not only that, the flow dynamics of a T shaped inlet are very poor

  18. ^this (again). It's the long T-shaped manifold that's the problem, so individual carbs sitting on each head are better.

  19. ... but is a SVDA dizzy better than a vacuum-only dizzy for twin carbs? Views welcome!

  20. A 123 VAC dizzy is better :D
