1.6 twin carbs

  1. You shouldn't have a true vacuum-only dissy on your engine - they went out with the ark. It's not a good way of advancing the ignition.

I suspect you've got a dissy with mechanical advance + additional vacuum advance (an SVDA, although I hate that term). Fine to use the vac advance if you can tap ported vacuum off the carb. May not not be the right vac signal, but better than nothing...

Vac only dizzy usually only found on beetle single port engines and match specific single solex carbs.

What you mean is mechanical only as the imfamous 009.

SVDA is better whatever your carb setup.

  3. My twins have never been set up right (in my opinion) even at my last MOT i was told I was firing tons of unspent fuel out the exhaust. I spent last year spending my money on the bodywork, this year is the engine. (Oh God, Sorry bank manager). So are you saying the twin original solex's are better than the single weber 32/36? I'm not looking for more speed (yet. That's to come) just better fuel economy and everything running right.

  4. The Weber is still sitting on a t-shaped manifold, which I suspect has had little thought put into its design. I'd go for twins.

Hopfully that's why it was running rich. Ask Ermintrude what she thinks...

  7. Thanks Zed and Snotty... I guess I'd assumed it was vac only rather than vac and mechanical advance... I'll check tomorrow!

This is a vac only one - large vac can.

This is a SVDA - smaller can.
