anyone got any pictures showing how they mounted their remote filter and cooler? Getting my case drilled when it's machined for 1776 so just trying to get an idea where everything goes. Thanks
Dont have any pics BUT... Filter housing is mounted ebtween the rear flap of the wheel arch and the rear corner so under the battery tray on the side the battery doesn't sit on, always advise mounting so you can screw the filter on full of oil so vertically. My cooler is fitted between the main chassis rail and the inner sill oposite the sliding door, Mine is a LHD so slider on the right. Here ts has space above it for air to circulate but is high enough so its higher than a chassi rail so cant get damaged. Hope that helps.
Thanks Alex. Do you have a thermostat fitted in line so oil can get to temp quicker? I would also like to fit my sump sender in the feed line to the cooler/filter so assume another fitting will be needed. Would be nice if there was a combined sender/thermostat unit. Will I have to drill a new hole in the tin to bring the return pipe back to the case?
I dont personally run a themrostat but should! Your best off leaving your sump plate sender as it is I cant see any benefit in moving it. As for drilling the case it depends who machines your case and where it is returning?
I would definitely recommend using a stat valve to isolate the oil cooler, as you can effectively make the oil run cold!!
I saw on here but can't find it that someone had used one of these, but they had to modify the engine bar for it to fit, are these any good
Maxi 3 Pump: http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares...nce-AC1151798_act_shop.product_pID_183825.htm They are great and work really well, BUT you do have to do substantial work to the engine brace bar to get them to fit.
Cool Iv'e still got a spare engine bar that I can play with that I got from @zed, and everything else, just ain't got round to it yet
Not got my head round this 'stat valve' thing........if you're using a separate thermostat valve (after the filter)....do you need some kind of pre-cooler?
that's what I thought.....just reading a thread where some guy fitted a 'pre-cooler' on a Type 3.....hence the confusion So: from the oil pump to the filter.....to a stat valve.....from the stat valve to the cooler.....from the cooler back to stat valve return....from stat valve return back into to the case?
That's spot on!! You can also get thermostatic sandwich plates that go between the oil filter, and oil filter head!! Reduces the amount of pipe termination points, and therefore the connector costs!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOCAL-OTS...Parts_SM&fits=Car Make:VW&hash=item5d4958d0a5
