I honestly wouldn't want to say...it's 2 KW, retails at £443 for a single outlet...plus additional parts/time to fit it. The non underfloor equivalent is a few quid cheaper....plus parts/time to fit it If storage space is a priority and you don't mind a bit of fettling, then underfloor is a better option IMO. A secondhand compact can be had for around £100+....these have a lower output (1.6 KW) and to fit underfloor will involve additional work... If I had the money, I'd go for the HS2211....if money was no object, then I'd go for a Webasto. Other options are available from Whale, which are essentially the same as Propex....Whale are better known for their water products, which are good quality, so I'd expect their heaters to be just as reliable...
Some propex salesman tried to sell me one at a show. I told him I had a 1600 compact that was about 10years old. He said yep, we made then to well!
My X1 heater is still going strong. May flog it to fund a new one. Its done me for 15 years! I dont even know how old it is but its pretty bullet-proof!
no reason why you shouldn't....the reinforcement I'm talking about is basically something either around, or covering the pipe to stop it being pulled, crushed or damaged... running a line between corrugations is an ideal to protect it from mechanical damage, but any exposed gas line below the floor is going to get chilly, so a bit of insulation wouldn't go amiss.. P clips every 20cm....job's a good 'un
@Kruger has installed his in an interesting place - the cubby hole under the passenger seat - proper wasted space used up.
I was reading up about the X1 (such is the interesting life I lead) and propex were asked to develop a budget/idiot proof space heater for the GPO....they insisted it had a cut out timer, so that Posties wouldn't be encouraged to sit in the van for longer than necessary....I kid you not
not my pic....this is for an underslung LPG install....which will be carrying liquid....just to demonstrate what they specify for LPG (which flows colder)
it's a great place to stash one....took some doing....also puts the outlet in a good place relative to units etc In theory, you could do away with the propex case altogether, and blank the cubby to suit.....I had the innards of mine in there as a trial, buy couldn't bring my self to punching a hole in the bulkhead....plus I'm trying to quieten it down a bit
In the beginning came the X1 heater (circa 1985), a 1.6kw heater commissioned by the GPO and fitted into the engineers vans, these heaters were supplied with a one hour timer, once the engineer had had his hour of heat he had to get a move on or suffer the cold as the heater would not reactivate for another hour. (A directive from the GPO not ours) From the propex site
I saw that. I try to fill those spaces with spares/tools etc. probably being paranoid, but I wanted to site the propex and gas outside partly for space but also partly for safety.
Mine packed up at wintercamp, checked all the usuals and no go. Propex told me to remove it and send it in, which I did. Spoke to them yesterday they say it's working fine. Bloke told me if anything packs up its usually the motherboard( which they haven't replaced). I've now got to wait for its return and try it myself. Not looking forward to re-installing.
