Thanks. Hopefully I should have everything I need, it looks pretty complete what I've got; but always good to know there are 'surplus to requirement' parts kicking around that didn't go over a fence somewhere
You may need to clarify your Paul’s! I assumed @Fruitcake Paul had the stuff, to pass unwanted bits to @paulcalf Paul, and I was leftovers after that! Too many Paul’s
I shall endeavour to clarify. @paulcalf, if Sarah is all ok for parts, please pass anything else to @Fruitcake for his continued fiddling
Yes, I @paulcalf will probably be able to pass the arms onto @Fruitcake Paul. Hopefully i'll be able to establish the thread pitch of the jam nuts (or whatever you call it), so we can find a UK source
Ok exactly what nuts do I need to source then? 3/8"AF (across flats) with 32 UNF thread 3/16" being the spanner size
No, you need 10-32 UNF left and right threaded half nuts. The spanner to fit is 3/8" AF (across flats). 10-32 is the designation for what would otherwise be called 3/16 UNF, I've no idea why as the next size up is called 1/4 UNF.
That's what i thought i bought originally and they don't fit! This is the right hand ones: https://www.accu.co.uk/imperial-hexagon-nuts/36769-HPN-10-32-A2
Nope The thread size is 3/16" - a number 10 Unified thread (thread sizes below 1/4" are indicated by meaningless numbers). 3/16" is the (major) diameter of the thread. You need 10-32 nuts (half nuts - half height ones would be better). The AF spanner size (just to make your life more complicated) is actually 5/32", which you probably don't don't have. Use a small adjustable. As above, you may have trouble finding Unified with a left hand thread in the UK.
^all the above assumes that your threaded rods are actually the original CB ones. Maybe someone has bodged metric rods on…
That's what made me wonder if you have metric turnbuckles. More likely to be M6 than M5, but who knows?
Poss M5 with metric heim joints? @paulcalf Just be grateful the threads aren’t Whitworth. That really would confuse you
Ok, just to avoid confusion, the two spanner sizes I quoted were: one for the lock nut and the other to hold the rods ends steady/firmly. Both were across flats. PS just cross posted with John
McGill Motorsport sell left and righthand metric and UNF half nuts and the corresponding rod ends and studded rod ends.
