  2. You should be covered under your travel insurance due to the fact that it is a government enforced cancellation.... ie no unnecessary travel.... even to Somerset! Try e-mailing them stating this fact & that you would like a full refund under the circumstances... always do it in writing then you have some written proof of the contact between you. Start off civilly then if it gets rough threaten legal recourse.

Did you pay by credit card?
If so you could do a section 75 maybe?

    cheers @Baysearcher

Sadly I don’t have a credit card so will have paid bank transfer.

Does that mean they won’t cover for anything relating to Coronavirus? Or just if you get poorly on your travels when the govt have advised against it?

Can't tell from their poorly written announcement. I also can't tell if its for all new policies, or existing ones!?

  8. Try martins money , they have been doing a lot of talkins on this subject but most of what I’ve seen is mainly no ! Our hotels and staff are also in the list now so I’m putting pictures up in the garden and towels on the sun beds to make me think I am . Look at it and think of all that spending money your have to build a swimming pool

Its going to cost us all a lot. Losing a holiday and the money to pay for it is going to be small change.

Be glad if they convert it to an offer for next year. Even that might be optimistic.

Mrs C was supposed to be going to Australia yesterday, up until Saturday they were saying she was still going and would lose her money if she cancelled or pay £100 to change to another date. Finally they have given her a voucher for later in the year but no money back

Just had an email. They said they couldn’t afford to refund or rebook so I would need to contact insurers :(

maybe I should have pointed out I’m also self employed so will have no income and seen if we could find a compromise in solidarity with each other. Maybe 50/50 or rebook another time.

Reply saying you can’t afford to lose £1k and they should be contacting theirs!
    Check their T&Cs

Good thinking, I’ve not responded as yet. Time to get the laptop out so that I can read the small print!

    Naughty.
Looks like they may have just admitted liability.

If they’re not refunding any of it, presumably they’re not going to stiff their suppliers? Bet they do...

Does it? How may that benefit me? Obviously I don’t want to bankrupt someone if their insurance doesn’t cover it, but neither do I want to gift them the whole amount if my insurance doesn’t either :(

I sort of feel that that is a possibility.

Have a look on mse for your legal rights.

Shame you didn't pay on credit card.

If you paid by debit card, you may be able to do a charge back through your bank. Not sure if the same is true for bank transfers.

  19. As well as reading the booking t&cs, read your own insurance documents before contacting anyone else.

Work out the facts, then you can put the smack down on whoever.

    No idea who Alez is!
