Holiday cancellation refunds, will I get one?

We have a week booked away in Somerset from April 6th which we will not be going on. The company involved have emailed me twice to ask for £150 security deposit. Last night being the most recent. I’m ignoring them at the moment as the holiday cost £1,000 (A Thousand Pounds?!! Copyright, Sorry I’ve Got No Head) and I am concerned that if I cancel as we don’t want to unnecessary travel I will get no refund.

Am I right in thinking that to get a full refund they have to cancel it? I rang about a week ago and they said it was still on but they were taking more safe cleaning precautions. I’m getting the feeling that they’re wanting me to cancel first :( .

PS I’ve already paid the full amount up front :(

  3. Hi @Merlin Cat - I’ve followed this situation closely as we’ve got a holiday let that was full of booking throughout the summer.

we made the decision to refund in full anyone who didn’t want to rebook later this year or next year before the enforced closure of the hospitality industry- Our agent subsequently changed their policy on the introduction of the lockdown stuff.

I would say, now you should be entitled to a full refund as the accommodation is no longer available - that seems fair and what they should do.

Morally they should refund you, but I don’t think that the guidelines mean that they have to :(

Cheers @Mattlad the thing is they’re saying the place is still available but we don’t want to travel to it in light of current guidelines. Their request for additional cash makes me think that they are trying to get as much cash in as possible :(

  6. S’pose it’s down to T’s&C’s and if you are morally bankrupt or not!

That’s what I was worried about :(. The security £150 is wanted by 1st April so we are defo not paying that. I think the guidelines mean I’m relying on their moral choice. Sadly as I rarely go to the Dr apart from work injuries i last had an inhaler prescription 4 years ago ( I still had some from Spain) so don’t have any medical letter that may mean I could get insurance to cover it. It was only so expensive as it is Easter week which we usually avoid but it was booked as after Sarah did the marathon

We’ve got a holiday in Mallorca booked for June, and I paid one of the hotels up front for the ‘no cancellation’ cheaper rate. Their terms state no cancellations in any circumstances so I don’t know how that will work if they are shut.

Bang on, because they KNOW they are going bust. Look on the bright side, the money was already spent and you can clearly afford to loose it. No offense meant, 1st world problem.

But if their premises are paying business rates there is a grant being isuued through the local authority - it’s looking like 10k for the smallest business premises up to 25k for the larger ones. The biggest ones dont appear to be eligible but they must be pretty massive companies. Not necessaryily going through the hoop.

1st world problem it is indeed. However, as self employed no income for the foreseeable i could do with the money back.

yes for when we drive to Spain. I’m not sure if this counts tho as the holiday folk aren’t cancelling.

  14. Our cottage booking for end of May was cancelled this week - we have not paid in full yet but if we do then we can have the same week next year without paying any more but our £100 deposit is lost if we don't.

Desperate for your money. Be suspicious. I'd kiss goodbye to the £100 and think yourself lucky.

thats what I thought Matt, but I wonder if they are waiting for us to cancel first? Otherwise why would they still be sending me cash requests?

  19. Nah, don't cancel with them, they need to cancel with you
