I think the takeaway from this thread is that @Poptop2 is absolutely wonderful . Anyone short I look down on!
These days, a Swatch is a Rolex; all are part of the mighty Swatch group . Nope I'm wrong Omega is, but I don't think Rolex are...they just use lots of Swatch Group parts.
I really have cut back on my watch buying now that i don’t sell them as well. I just keep the nicer ones that I have bought and add to it when I see something I can’t resist. I’m happy wearing my Casio because it doesn’t break and keeps good time.
Reminds me of the old fortune cookie program on early UNIX. One of the better cookies you hit on logging in was "Does Mickey Mouse wear a [random username] watch?".... I believe the term was "roasted".
Are they mechanical? Being mechanical (and expensive) is about the only way to differentiate these days.
The seiko watch @F_Pantos put up earlier is as good as any luxury watch time keeping and reliability wise.
The one with a 6R15 in it? Mine looses about a two or three secs a day, as long as it's not loosing charge. That's pretty good for a mechanical, the so called COSC certification is plus or minus two secs per day, I think. Omega and Rolex should achieve that level of accuracy. The spring drives in the Grand Seiko are even better. For perspective, my Casio looses that in a month
It’s the only way they can possibly compete. I can tell you some tales of Swatch in the early days. And how the Swiss watch industry nearly died, due to it having its head firmly up it’s ultra-conservative bum.
Yeah, the advent of the quartz movement is a classic case of a disruptive technology at work. The Japanese very nearly handed the Swiss watch industry their backside on a plate. The renaissance in Swiss watch industry is the amazing feat.
It was a designer watch. I think this will tell you more than I know https://www.stay-tuned-to-sw.de/kiki_picasso.html
