Drive to work Fridays! Blast along the Dorset Way on the way in and then picked up some bits on the way home for “beetle workshop Saturday” and cabinet bits Sunday.

  2. Did you get a special Friday speeding ticket on Wessex Way?

Chances of me speeding in the bay aren’t too high!

Applied the first coat of varnish on my newly acquired spare wheel cabinet cover, listened to some Thin Lizzy and came in for fish and chips for tea :food:

It’s a bit crusty in other places, too... 296177E5-8203-4FED-9207-3C22690E228E.jpeg Thing is, I havnt got the time, money or motivation to do anything about it yet, also, no-where under cover. Not too bothered, tbh. Lots to do on it.It starts fine and runs. The brakes work, so I may take it up my mot place just to see how much it could fail on.Loads of welding to do underneath, by the looks of it. Might just get the sander on it, and rat the whole thing. Probably cheaper.

This is a no screws or glue wardrobe modification I made. Two side panels with shelf supports fixed to them are wedged in place by the shelves.
Much more useful for us than one big space.
I can remove all and not leave any holes etc.
    They are very sturdy too.[IMG][IMG]

Driven in it to Bristol in the wind.
Hard work, slowed to 60mph,even though the steering is good. Having to pull hard against the gusts across the M4..

Failed to find a parking space in Ikea (wanted to buy some plant growing lights) so ended up having lunch in the Burger Joint on Whiteladies Road . Probably better than meatballs and Daim cake.

  9. Surely even a 1600 can do 40mph?

Made attempt to tweak my sliding door. Tightened up the middle rear roller follower and freed up the top roller - took a two hour petrol soak to get it moving. Door’s better but still collides with the rear pin.

Its also possible stuff has shifted because the sliding bit was loose, and worst case some sheet metal has bent while you slammed it..
I broke the u bolt and one of the cams for instance basically because the bronze bushings on the U bolt were worn and the door was bouncing off things.

The price of a replacment mechanism is eye watering because they are all pretty worn out now apart from buses that have sat rotting or in pieces in the likes of @davidoft's collection.

  12. Had an email from custom & commercial a couple of days ago, they’ve started selling the full assembly for both lhd and rhd. Haven’t seen one in person so can’t speak to the quality but they look decent in the pics

Think they needed to be higher up to affect the speed

Ended up cleaning the back side of the speedometer and fuel gauge lenses, and generally poking around the instrument cluster.
Noted that the drive gear to the odometer digits has cracked but the gear still seems fairly well attached to the shaft. If it ever bothers me I wil use thread and epoxy glue to wrap the smooth shoulder of the gear to the shaft.

Then spent ages fixing the cluster to the dash, working out where to sit to get my arm to reach the back of the two screws in the centre of the dash.
