I need to know the birthday of my bug so I can get my free tax woop woop. The v5 is no good because it was imported in 1991. I've looked on the vw website but there are two options. "Certificate " or "data sheet". Does anyone know which one has the build date on it. Cheers all.
Before you pay loadsa money and wait ages for a reply, look up your M-plate online to get the build date.
The certificate has the date on, not sure about the data sheet. Bare in mind it is currently taking 8 months + to get them through from VW....
data sheet has all you need on and is loads cheaper, certificate just looks nicer, i "think" someone on here said they were e-mailing data sheets and somewhere in the uk could do them too.
I noticed the long wait. Should have sorted this sooner. I've had the car since 1993 tuesday_wildchild
I went for the full certificate and they emailed me the data sheet as well (much earlier than the certificate turned up). Data Sheets has: VIN Model Production date Delivery date Delivery to Annoyingly mine had no production date as it was CKD so didn't really help me!
I might just go for data sheet. It would be nice to see where it got delivered to. Somewhere in the USA.
I had M-plate and needed my proof of age a lot sooner than the 7+ months it was taking in December 2014 so joined www.vwocgb.com and a very friendly guy called Rod did me a Age verification letter and I gave this with pics of my m-plate to the DVLA and they accepted it fine. NOTE: I have heard others haven't been as lucky as me but it might be worth a punt?
A five minute scoot around the Internet shows my car was made in January 1976. I also have some USA emissions sticker on the b post which shows chassis number and build date. As I'm now burning a hole in my free tax this is my top priority job.
Despite loads of threads about this I'm still unsure as to how it works! Mine is January '76 so should it become tax free now or from April?
