Door cards and keeping the water out.

  1. what are the fixings like.are they a plastic thing that goes in from the front with s screw affair that opens the pins up in the hole (molly clips). I need some of these to fit my sliding door panel as the westy ones are about 20 quid just for the clips.

  2. Pretty sure that's what they come with.

FWIW the GSF ones look like the same thing, but £15 less.

GSF sell a similar looking "premium quality" black plastic kick panel set - £35, not sure that's any cheaper but they might be in stock.

  3. Yep just as you describe, I used then in my homemade sliding door panel also. I got mine from halfords about a quid for 5 or 10. Will check in the garage

  4. 6 in a pack and you need 18 total for sliding door.[IMG]

£2.79 for a pack of 6, think I get then cheaper with my trade card though. But easy to get and do the job nicely

I used a bit of B&Q dust sheet cut up to fit, and some 10mm wide generic double sided Scotch tape.

And the clips are tricky to fit , I agree they are always popping out, but they work much better if every hole has the correct sized little rubber bung in it first.

  6. I'm sure you could fit with screws and those plastic cap things

  7. Still not bought any new door cards...but have been messing about with my doors again today so thought I'd have a look at what's available. I've got some membranes waiting to be fitted... I never heard back from Bus and Camper re the ABS panels, but have emailed them again today. Has anyone bought any recently?

  8. Can't find them for sale in the uk but they are on USA ebay

  9. I think Bus and Camper have stopped selling them tbh. best bet is to contact werksberg directly through thesamba.com and see if he will ship to you. if bus and camper are not his UK agent anymore he may ship direct to you.

  10. I searched worldwide and couldn't find them. Got a link?
I think you may be right. He lists EVAM CLASSIC / VW SPLIT PARTS in the Netherlands as a supplier so I contacted them last night. Super quick response but no prices yet.

They've got two types. Based on the advice here (and dependent on cost) I'm inclined to go for the ones with cutouts for vents... although one of my vents seems to be slightly broken and half of me is wondering whether I should just simplify things and block off another potential source of water ingress. I like the idea of allowing the doors to dry out though...decisions decisions.

Looks like there are screw holes for fitting the vents to the door card.

  11. I have the top ones with vent holes, the covers actually just push on the holes along the top are for the coating lugs of the plastic vent

  15. These wondrous plastic things won't stop rain splashing through your air vents...

  16. Aren't you the one that told me I should keep the air vents? Without the vents where would the water get in?

  17. I am, and vents are good things. But you need a plastic membrane behind the vent, like VW did it.
