Whilst supping away on a pint of King Goblin (6.6%) which was very nice, I was wondering what other ales people enjoyed ?
I sampled a few pints of Orme ale on Friday night in one of the village pubs and very nice it was indeed www.greatormebrewery.co.uk/cask_ob.htm
Sampled some Theakstons Old Peculier - Watermill Collie Wobbes when up in the lakes this year. The pub I drank it in actually brew it on site. http://www.lakelandpub.co.uk
the local pub by me is called the old peculiar - they do a lot of real ale, i don't like ale but i giggle as the locals call the pub "the puke" it used to be called the red lion.
I live 50 yards from a small village pub, the landlord refuses to serve real ale, just john smiths and he makes a bad job of keeping that . what a @hailfrank. ON draft my favorite ales are Bombardere and centurians ghost.and blacksheep special. Oh and old perculier aswell
Enville ale is my favourite /http://www.envilleales.com/. For supermarket bottled beer it's mad goose http://www.puritybrewing.com/mad-goose.cfm
these were very good from a small localish brewery, im lookin forward to trying my own all grain beer soon, a sample of the wort fron the boiler ,, heres a small one i made, its bottled and conditioning, and the other 6 gallons in the new fermenting cab i made last week ..
used to like this out of the cask, in the Lamb inn in Eastbourne in the winter a few years back, i like dark ales http://www.harveys.org.uk/shop/bottled-beers/59-old-ale-275ml.html
Oh and these do a nice drop http://www.bluemonkeybrewery.com/ Local brewery only a couple of miles from me in notts
The king of continental beers is Chimay imho, brewed by trappist monks, lovely stuff, particularly Bleu, 9% but tastes really smooth. We have Harveys round here, looks and tastes like the river that runs past the brewery in Lewes, but nice all the same. Also like London Pride and Spitfire.
if in certain Glasgow pub, "skullspliter " in west coast of Scotland most pubs refuse to sell"snakebite" , is it same in England? (bleedin nanny state!, Scotland that is) , like we do not buy 2 pints of lager ,2 pints of cider, and mix em, oh no, we don" t do that.
Currently I have three or four when we go to posh Morrisons in town - Doom Bar Jennings Cumberland Thwaites Wainwright Brakspear Oxford Gold
massive real ale fan....fair play to Run to the Hills this year for having Blue Monkey beer on for er cant remember but was chaep... lots of like but in a pub like ST Austell Tribute....Oakham Ales do a winter stout called Winter Wraith which is good, local try Thornbridge Jaliper....like rocket fuel....have you seen new Hayburner with beer in tap in the bus.
I'm quite partial to Black Sheep Ale, when I can get it down here in OZ. Only in bottles though I'm afraid
