Worried about Camping this Year

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by PIE, Feb 8, 2021.

  1. Perhaps you are refering to the days when facilities were basic and appeal was low - dead cats and shopping trolleys as neighbours?

In the meantime you have benefited, initially through low operating/existence costs, better facilities and more maintenance and accessibility. It has now brought with it a higher appeal and more realistic prices?

I would imagine a mooring at a nice wharf is still far cheaper than any bricks and mortar, or flammable-clad alternatives?

I'm not complaining, I can afford the £50K cash layout for a reasonable boat. Many can't. You can't get any kind of loan these days.

And also not complaining because life on a boat is halfway to campering 24/7/365, I must try and remember that while you house bound types are missing your camping. I've just been breaking the ice around the boat, stove going toasty warm. :)

  3. I feel camping- Vw or caravan will not be the same this year. I tend to book CL 5 van sites in the middle of nowhere that’s part of the fun no tent allowed. I feel first time campers will taint the experience, plus the first drop of rain they will be off like a shot never used again hopefully back to Spain next year for them so peace and quite will resumes.

You could always find a shed thats about 70 ft long near a canal with three phase power, or an abandoned gym , do your bus up, build a canal boat to pass the time. I am sure post COVID there will be a good few leisure facilities abandoned on industrial estates...e.g. ten pin bowling with professional coughing...
Steel boat building is only endless seam welding and plasma cutter work..

This is what a queue to the toilet block will look like on a small secluded spot in the holiday season this year .
I think they should do school all year till Sept 20 then a week off then resume .

I bought this at the weekend from the same bloke I got the Pontiac and Jeep from. He bought it last year, parked it in his paddock and never used it. It's cleaned up well and is fully appointed. I'll give it until May and sell it on to a newbie staycationer who will hate it and sell it back to me at half price, repeat as many times as possible :D

Without wishing to be rude, I guess a few of us, me included, are getting on a bit and so we may remember the halcyon days of our youth...as a Scouser a few old deralict houses were my favourite playground. The 50m people who lived here in about 1960 are now the 68m. So with closed borders it might get a bit cosy for a bit :(

  10. You're not going to drag that to TE along with your armchair, music center and fireplace are you, Paul? ;)

Allegedly, Boris is hoping to ( subject to R number and new infections) planning to open schools in March...if the figures stay stable, non essential shops a couple of weeks later with a view to hospitality including staycation venues open for Easter.
Hope this "exclusive " report proves to be true and things don't go pear shaped when schools reopen.

Absolutely, with the hot tub, home cinema system, ice maker, washing machine, patio heater, hog roast and solarium. between @scrooge95 and myself we could do a 5 course meal for us all in our ovens.

  14. Hot tub could be a hit, you think?

Not certain about the washing machine, however.....

Sounds like you are going to be roughing it then.

  16. Thinking about this, however, you know what? A "home cinema" is a great idea, it might be just the ticket for some of the early, or late, stayers and be something we could all appreciate after a challenging winter. I, for one, would enjoy an open air movie

Big ask here, do you have a projector, @Fruitcake, anyone?
