What happens to the ignition and battery warning lights when you try to crank the engine; same brightness or do they dim? Check the red/black cable at the solenoid hasn’t dropped off, check power is getting to the solenoid on the red/black cable when the ignition switch is in crank position.
If it’s not turning over another battery won’t do anything. And don’t waste your time checking for power to the coil – if it isn’t turning over there wont be a spark.
No change light remain on and bright. Literally nothing happens when key is turned ( other than the pump whirring).
Check for 12v at the solenoid on the red/black cable when the ignition switch is in crank position. It could be a solenoid or an ignition switch fault or just poor connections.
Will check connections...that would seem the logical starting point as the throttle cable is within 6 inches of the starter motor terminals...I may have caught something. The ignition switch was changed about 10 years ago and has never been dodgy prior to this incident.
No, never had any starting issues. I've checked all the fuses under the dash and the Ctek has fully charged the battery. When I can remove all the building materials from around the bus, I'll get under and check the electrical connections to starter, in case I caught one fitting the accelerator cable ...screeding the kitchen floor at the moment, so I'll put it on the "to do" list for tomorrow and report back.
Turned out to be a broken wire on starter solenoid. New connection made and all cleaned up. She starts !!
There are no fuses in the ignition circuit unless previously hacked to include one. If the solenoid is fairly stuck then it will not click when you turn the key as only 16 amps will flow from the battery when you turn the key. If the ignition switch is broken or the connectors under the dash have fallen off then the solenoid will not work either. My guess is that the solenoid is stuck with being left unused for a while.
I was too polite to say anything, all help is always gratefully received, in the end @Barry Haynes sorted it for me ...... not.
