I've recently changed the throttle cable on my 2L auto.
Checked that I had throttle movement, but bus has been trapped in the garage for about a month because of scaffolding around the house and didn't want to start her in the garage without been able to give her a run.
Went to start this morning, nothing....turn ignition key and all I can hear is faint hum of pump.
Nothing touched in engine bay, battery fully charged, but giving it an hour on Ctek just in case.
Ran fine before and not moved much since service/MoT before Christmas.
Suggestions.....perhaps caught a wire on starter?

I don't know about older autos, but will it start if not in park, worth giving the selector a wiggle and see,

If all of the above is rubbish,
    Apologies

Will have a look...didn't realise ignition was fused.

When I check starter connectors I will give it a tap.

Yes first thing you should check when it just turns over and over

  9. Have you tried both P and N positions? Also have you seen this supplementary wiring diagram for the auto?

Yes and no. Will view on computer, but mine's a 72/3 so not sure if different.

It's not turning over, dash just lights up and the only "movement " is the pump turning.

    The ignition is not fused.
What made you think the battery was ok as it sounds like that's all your problem is to me?
    What's the CTech doing? :)

  13. Quite likely similar, I'd have thought. On my 79 it's like this but there's an extra fuse under the dash on the red/black wire.

Not seen any fuses other than the ones in the fuse box...but will have a look.

But I thought the coil feed was fused ?

    Nope.

  17. Correction - the extra fuse is part of my ancient alarm system which interrupts the starter. Not stock VW I think.

Lives connected to a trickle charger...
CTEK suggests otherwise....went promptly up to "4 " charged, but will try adding another battery via jump leads.
