Well i had a good day with the weather so got a bit more done so cut out all the bad bits and made some more bits to fill the hole then finish the rest and do the corner of the roof next.
Thanks for all the good words, it's nice to watch other peoples projects, and see the different ways that they do there's. But Kruger. L,O,L I would say your mental the way you sandblasted in a little tent under your van ,brilliant idea ;-) love watching your van resto as well keep up the good work.
This is the best resto thread ever, infact if Carlesberg did resto threads this would have there name all over it. Whats the story behind your awesome metal working ability... Did you do the rear sections over a former or did you do them free hand with a hammer and dolly or fab them from sections, there looking sweet.
hi redoxide, i have been doing this sort of thing since i left school ,building hot rods custom cars etc. I made most of it by free hand with a fixed dolly and the rest in sections. i just in joy this sort of work You have some skill as i have been watching your resto some awesome work there as well
No not bonkers just like what i am doing but i dont think mine is as bad as some on here, some people have had to replace half there chassie, mine just has some bad bits but the main parts are good but i dont like patches i like to replace it with a full bit of fresh steel.
Im cheetin on mine though, buying panels, your scoring high on self fabd parts My history is pretty much the same as yours.. I started of at 14 and bought a fordson van for £125 having saved the cash from a paper round. I saw a pic of Speed Freek fordson in hot car about a hundred years ago and I was hooked... I think I got a mention in Custom Car this month for a 36 3 window I started but had to sell due to the ammount af cash I had in it and the fact I couldnt get near it for working on stuff foe other folk... also built a 35 5 window for a mate that got a cover and centre in custom car... pretty chuffed with that... Ive also built a couple of model A roadsters a 28 coupe and a 32 coupe.. plus a few 50s trucks, kinda fell out of love with the rod scene as it was all getting a bit over competative and far to expensive not to mention the registration issues... VWs just seemed a good idea, shame they rust before your eyes ..LOL.. Keep up the great work I love seeing how other folk go about stuff, always a lot more interesting than my own stuff
Snap i have been around hot rods and drag race cars forever with a pro street metro - pops model A etc - -Gladys my van is my 1st vw project - But i may have a 69 bug coming next oh very soon -
I think the VW scene is very lucky to have all you hot-rodding geezers drifting in. Your skills are setting a new level.
Well I have all ways been in to vdubs since my first was a ,1300 beetle, but later on I had campers witch used to tow my drag cars and custom cars to shows, but now I have a family I was looking for some thing to do again, so I thought camper as it's useful, plus would like to go touring some day with my little girl but she has serabalpalse so makes going on holiday difficult so a van should be easier.
I agree with you outlaw it's alot more friendly ,I found with hotrods people where very snobby thats why I came back to vdubs
