Wiring loom

  1. Hi, I have just bought a 1972 bay camper and the wirings a mess. The vans had alot of welding done to it, and i think the wiring was removed when this was done and it hasn't been put back properly and there are quite a few wires still disconnected, also i think many of the wires have been connected up wrong as when i switch the headlights on the wipers come on . I am going to start by checking the headlight switch wires and then the hazard switch wires etc etc.. making my way through the whole wiring loom. Can anyone post a picture of there headlight switch with the wiring connected so i can see exactly were all the wires go? any help will be appreciated

  2. have a look on vintagebus.com all years are listed on there in the technical section 8)

Maybe as simple as the switches have been put back in the wrong places and then whatever wiring reached used hence the spare unconnected wires? Patience is a virtue here, have faith that someone got muddled.

  5. Have you got yourself a wiring diagram ?

Once you get your head around it, it's pretty easy to follow.

  7. Thanks very much guys, that will help me alot. I don't have a wiring diagram yet, also i don't think i have a flasher relay fitted as i can't see one anywere and when i put the indicator on the green light comes on the dash but it doesn't flash plus the indicators don't work anyway! is that the flasher relay on the back of the speedo gauge? I will wire the headlight switch tomorrow (as shown in the picture) and go from there.

  8. The relays are on the fusebox

The silver box on the back of the speedo is the voltage stabiliser for the fuel gauge and youve reminded me i need one as one of the legs have snapped off mine

  9. Ahh right, looks like i need one of them aswell then :( will check the fuse box tomorrow to see if i have any relays

I've just wired one up that was mostly disconnected. The indicators now come on with the sidelights, the left sidelight comes on with the indicators, all the indicators flash double speed but hazzards go the right speed and the instrument lighting flashes with the indicators so I came home. :(

  11. Here is a picture of my fuse box, i have looked on the bottom of it and there are no relays fitted! Do the wires look in the right order to you?[IMG]

  12. [IMG][IMG] This is the switch that is marked as being the headlight switch. Sorry the pics are a bit blurry, the battery was going. I will get some better pics at the weekend.

  13. Ill drag my loom out of the back of the shed tmw and get some pics for you dude

  14.
  15. Also the switch that is marked as the headlights which works the wipers should definitely not be the wipers as the wipers are on the stalk/steering column :arrggh:

  16. You need a wiring diagram ! for the year of van hopefully your van has the right loom in it for the year as some of the wire colour's change on different years then it is just a case of running through each circuit at a time to see what's going on. With a test light battery and a length of wire you will be able to test individual wires.

What years your van ? PM me and I will give copying the wiring diagram out of my Bentley book a go.

  17. Thanks for that, the 1972 wiring diagram on thesamba is easy to understand, but the 73 diagram is mind boggling :dizzy:

  18. :yeah that:

I wish someone clever would do a 73 diagram in the style of the 72 one.

I put all mine back in as when I got my bus the wiring loom was all hanging out the bottom of the van

How everything works amazes me still ;D ;D

From what I remember the 72 one isn't that far off, it is silly bits like the wiper switch that is column mounted rather than a dash switch

Speed Jims site may help !!http://www.speedyjim.net/htm/elec.htm
