At 5 years old i remember very early doubts about christianity . There was a thing called Sunday school which my parents thought it was a good idea for me to attend . On this occasion it was palm Sunday and it was really really cold in the church so bad i took my shoes off and put my gloves over my feet . And listening to the vicar waffling on about Mary and Jesus entering Jerusalem in the intense heat and having palm leaves wafted over them to cool them down . At the end Thank God we all left the church only to be confronted by a blizzard of snow . I saw my mum waving at me in the church car park to pick me up after the service . I shouted to her ...standing looking up in the air at all the snow falling ...and said . Mum it's really hot where Mary and Jesus are ..they wafted ....she cut me short and said ....JUST get in the car and shut up it's bloody freezing
I remember trying to cycle to school and falling off so took it back and walked. I must have been 12. Apparently 1947 was as bad. https://blog.metoffice.gov.uk/2017/01/26/winter-1947-brought-a-freeze-to-post-war-britain/ Not sure how Chris Packam was there then.
You were lucky, me ‘n me 14 siblings had been in a cryogenic state since 46/ 47 freeze. 1963 was a godsend. I donated me vest to those in need . I were 7 at time but we’ll past my use by date if you took frozen years in t’account.
I was born in late December’69. I remember getting a lot higher snow falls (about 100 miles north of NYC) when I was a kid.
Almost born in the back of my Dads’s car as the ambulance was unable to get to our house …..as my Mum would keep reminding me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
