    Hi all,
Windscreen wipers decided to only work on the second 'fast' setting.
    Driving back in torrential diwnpour.

The first click up with wiper stick does nothing.
Any ideas what to look at please. (tips in simple terms, i'm an electrical novice)

I've checked fuses, looked for any obvious cable loose.

It briefly worked once when i jiggled tge wiper stick.

The slow and fast setting use different wires on the motor.

If it parks properly when the wiper switch is off then the slow speed wiring to the motor is good from the switch as it uses the slow speed to park.
The same power wire to the switch provides 12 volts for the slow and fast speed wires from the switch going to the motor.
Power for parking goes over to the wiper motor and the rotary switch on the gearbox, then comes back to the wiper switch ..
The conclusion is therefore that the switch is burnt out.between the 12 volt input and the slow speed output ..

Basically fast wire from switch missing.. no fast
Slow wire from switch missing, no slow, no park.
12 volt wire from switch missing. No fast, no slow, park works..
Park wire from switch missing.. no park.

I only know this type of switch from a 74 late bay…with a meter you can check for continuity between the different wires at specific stalk positions. You can also loosen the tabs remove the cover and check the condition of the contacts inside

That's 100% better than "burnt out" or "no longer available new, only partly worn out" .. I think BBT tend to aim higher than a lot of distributors..

Managed to take out the assembly. Couldn't see/find anything that looked burnt/bad.
No change. Still wipers only fast no park.

Must be under dash somewhere. [IMG][IMG]

    Now I've messed up..
I put wiper arms mech etc back on steering column.
Re connected a little wire 'piggybacking' from live under dash to washer button.
    Connected battery.
Turned key... Only a funny noise.
Went round back FIRE at battery live atcut offswit h.
    Ok extinguished little fire.
    Live cable burnt... Replaced it.
    Checked all connections.
The little wire piggybacking the live had come apart. Re connected.
    Now nothing.

Turn key = warning lights yes, fuel pump sound yes, nothing else.

    Could I have blown something?

Sorry but if it started a fire at the back, there may be further damage in the loom from the front of the bus all the way to the cutoff switch at the battery.

The windscreen wiper circuit should have been fused and that fuse should have blown.

    To top that.
When looking under at solenoid, i saw cvboot split badly, changed that last year.

You’re not having a good day @Day. Methinks you’re going to have a crash wiring course in the next few weeks, or be skint!
