Windscreen rubber

  1. Mine was all split and perished and I ignored it as no water appeared to be getting in. How wrong I was!! Water had trickled down inside the front panel for years and if left much longer would have meant an expensive front panel job.

I've seen plenty of T2s with similar split rubbers. So replace them for a new one, about £30 plus a fiddly job While the windscreen's out, deal with any otherwise inaccessible rust on the dash.

    Wise words.
Just a point; buy the best seal you can. Buy cheap, buy twice and all that.
Simple job if you've got someone to give you a hand.

  3. And use some sealer... even the good seals are prone to leaking as they aren't contoured in the corners like the OG ones...

  4. I've just done one of these on my bus. Got some pull start string from a lawnmower place. Worked a treat. Just a tip

  5. I found that the lower edge of the metal "lip" where the rubber sits, was quite rusty. This needed derusting then rebuilding with fibreglass, making refitting the glass a "challenge" ::)

  6. Sounds it. Was the fibre glass strong enough?

  7. It was only in small sections, rather than across the entire width fortunately.

Once I'd done thankfully minor repairs to the lower front panel, I slurped loads of Waxyoil everywhere
