Wind noise

  1. The van past its first MOT today so we are finally on the road.

We get a wind noise over about 45mph, it seem only to be on the drivers side (RHD) and appears to be comong from down near the floor or from the front panel some where - its deffinately not the door or door seals - its more from the lower front of the van.

Is this normal or something I should investigate further ?

  2. does it have the front pan on it? pedal seals intact?

  3. do the window back up bruv ...bet its the wind coming thru your hole...looooool---pedal holes

Try an external sun visor and a roof rack. Then you wont hear the wind rushing where the pedal cover is missing or the wheel arch has holes in it . All of these applied when I got my bus. Now its just the roofrack and visor..

  5. I have the pan somewhere - I will put it back on. I don't think I left the window open ?

We are thinking of fitting a sun visor and roof rack - are they wind noise makers as well then ?

  8. Yeah, there is a pan that goes right at the front... stops the wind swirling round under the very front

  9. Sussed it ! - it wasn't the belly pan missing (although thats back on now), it was the vents in the drivers door. I have two different doors - the LH door has no vents and is a solid door - no windnoise. The RH door has cut outs (vents) in the shut of the front of the door and the windnoise was coming from the RH.
Initially I masked up the RH door gap and went up the road - massively less noise - so now I have used some banding to cover the vents and its a different van - hardly Rolls Royce or even Ford Mondeo quiet but a huge improvement than before.

  10. cool

was gonna suggest that you cut down on the beans on toast ;)

  12. I find that there is sometimes a significant difference between windnoise and the consistency and indeed power of the wind.

The foodstuffs you mention most deffinately do produce noise - however if you want power combined with consistency it has to be cabbage - eat loads and loads of cabbage washed down with a few pints of bitter - then you have serious pooh power
