I'm not sure what he means by Chara either. I think it means chariot, as in vehicle. It's probably Kiddi talk. Kiddi as is Kidderminster. It's a town about 12 miles from me. I'm not sure if you know but in the UK you just need to travel 10 miles and the dialect and accent can change. Personally, I talk proper, the Queen's English, without any accent It's easier for some of us to understand you

And regarding accent - in Wales you only need to cross the M4 between Cardiff and Taffswell to get a whole different accent and life experience (a bit like the culture shock in Deliverance - but with fewer pig noises and one less banjo).

Ok so i accept the so22 and 23s etc were exceptional for their time , and i accept the quality of the prototype westys were superb ,but why do people still rate and hanker after the old chara's these days . i did --and i had once owned 71 devon caravanette which i loved and rated as good if not better , whats the deal why are they so special ?.

After a little typing and previewing, I was finally able to deduce through trial and error that "prototype" actually means E A R L Y B A Y. (this forum is just SOOO funny sometimes. : ) ("funny" translates to "pain in my ***")
But Wikipedia has 16 different meanings for the word "Chara", none of which have anything to do with Volkswagens.
When Chara is typed into Google images you get mostly hockey players and Japanese animation.
I even consulted my Book of UK Slang that I keep just to help me try to understand you people. Chara is not in it.
(I'll not even bother to discuss the deviously creative punctuation at work here.)
Maybe if I just read through the 32 answers I can piece together what the question is.
At times like this I really feel like I need vaccinations and a passport just to log in. :rant:

Speaking of obscure archaic slang and terminology,... Many very old Americans and pretty much all of our backwater country bumpkins still refer to a refrigerator as an icebox, a word relic left over from the old days of wooden boxes kept cool with a block of ice.
What a pain in the *** this was as I was shopping for my Westy Deluxe. Most ads will say, "sink, stove, icebox,...".
I had to respond to them all and ask, "Now, when you say icebox, do you mean it has an insulated box to put ice in or does it actually have what we now call a refrigerator?"
The common reply was, ".............Huh?".

i've still got a lump of Devon cabinet in the back of my leg after 35 years after falling over in the back of my Nana's camper and the cupboard fell apart.

The westy interior is superior in every way to every other conversion. Simples. I guess because its German...

I take it from that you are enforcing the stereotype of Germans being the best Engineers. Yup they are good but a tad overly mobile and ambitious from time to time and too quick to claim czech and polish engineering is their own and indeed dutch innovation come to that!
