Why do you hate caravans?

Caravans remind me of Snails, its people carrying their home on their back, they're slow, dont smell very nice, and they both leave messy trails wherever they go, a 2 mile queue of traffic is a messy trail!

The Top Gear and Inbetweeners caravan episodes sum up caravanning perfectly. :D

  3. I don't hate caravans for what they are, I rather dislike them for what and who they represent.

A caravan and a campervan are similar in that they are designed for going away on holiday in, are slow and clog up the roads. Hating caravans and yet driving a campervan would make me a hypocrite.

Caravans (and modern motorhomes for that matter) are all clones of each other and all look the same. Their owners go on the same holidays to the same places and do the same things as each other. They sit in their caravans and watch tv, or sit outside them on garden chairs and read the paper.

I associate a campervan with being a bit more adventurous - going and exploring new places because you don't have to worry about finding accommodation (because there's a bed in the back).

So what they're used for - totally different. What they are - pretty much the same. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

  4. Speaking of your seemingly bleak camping areas, (from my perspective, e.g. your photos) I was just online, investigating the campground that is nearest to me. (1.3 hours away) I thought some of you might get a kick out of it.
It's called Brazos Bend State Park. This casually alarming review I found more or less sums it up-

"we used to come to this park from time to time when i was a kid. we didn't know what it was called when we were kids, so we called it alligator park, since there's alligators all over the place. i've never seen a park ranger, or any other employee on the grounds other than at the toll booth. i'm not sure how many accidents happen each year, or if the alligators simply aren't interested in eating people, but it amazes me that there are no barriers between us and them. i even remember one time when an alligator was sunbathing on one of the trails, and we were stupid enough to step right over it and continue hiking.
as previously mentioned, there are trails for hiking and biking. there are also lakes and rivers for fishing and rafting, but no swimming is allowed, unless you'd like to donate yourself to the alligators for lunch. the park also has barbecue grills and picnic tables. they tell you not to feed the alligators, but I'm still not sure what the alligators are eating everyday to survive. be sure to bring lots of bug spray, and keep an eye out for ticks and chiggers,..."

    Nice, huh?
From everything I've seen and read, it's a beautiful park teeming with exotic wildlife. Turtles, blue herons, raccoons, deer, armadillos, banana spiders (like a tarantula), 80 kinds of poisonous snakes, and of course, it is crawling with alligators.
Several reviews spoke of gators just strolling across the hiking trails! And some idiot parents just let their kids run off and poke around at the water's edge!
Well, Pfff! My ass!!! I'll take a nice bleak windy spot on the estate grounds of the late Sir Abernathy Chutney Earl of Worcestershire or wherever you people go, thank you very much and pass the hooch! :beer_yum:
    Alligators. Ha!
Enjoy your tents there. I'll be in my caravan with the door locked!

And this is supposed to entice
    potential campers?!

I used to be a caravanner, i had my 1st caravan at the age of 21 and had many good holidays in them, i used mine the same as i now use my bus, to sleep in and use as a cheap base while on holiday, what i dislike is people who go away to sit in the van all day and watch telly and shout at kids to keep away from it.... i was in the camping and caravan club at one time and they are a right bunch of toffee nosed gits who can shove their rules up their bum. I would have another caravan tomorrow if i could, a lot of caravanners are not selfish drivers but there are a lot of people who have the wrong car for the van and have it badly loaded and are selfish to other road users, i would always pull over if i was holding up people on single carriageways.

  7. i agree ricky mate ...camping n caravan club bods are amazing in the way they drive 300 miles to a holiday spot ,then spend 8 hours a day watching neighbours ,corrie, etc crap ,etc........then look down there nose at people who want to camp and caravan proper and enjoy there surroundings and nature .....
