Inspired by the age thread where Chrisradioman states Milly will be 40 in Dec 2019 i wondered who's bay is the newest? mine is March 78 so Chris beats me, i'm guessing that it's on a V reg or maybe a W? if they went that far - what was the official end day?, we always discuss what is the ealiest late bay but as a side question does the last one off the line exist too?, landrover always keep the last one at Dunsfold or a dealership etc just wondered if Vw did the same?

We have a '79 but how do find a bus's 'birth date'?

  3. Winnie is a 1978, but i am the same as Delilah how do you find her birthday.

  4. Think mine was august '79, I'm older than my bus. Lol

take a pic of your m plate and birdy will tell you. just post it up on here if you like

  6. If you work your way through the m-plate site you'll get the answer to your date of birth plus a lot of other info.

I discovered via this that my pick up was built on Friday 26th January 1979 and sent to a dealership in Munich.
It is no good going by info in the log book such as date first registered, as there could be a considerable time lapse between actual production and registration due to buses being kitted out as campers, exported etc.
As far as I know Bay production stopped in May '79 - I guess to allow for re-tooling for the T25 production run which started in August '79.
With this in mind I'm puzzled as to how Chris's bus can be a Dec '79 bus?

  7. Mine's May '78 on an S plate. They ceased production in late '79, just when the V plate came out. But I'm sure VW were still selling the final few a year later. So, in very rare cases you might see a W-plate from August 1980. I guess the same thing happened in the UK as I know it did in Australia. Towards the end of production, Bays were not the hottest of sellers and hung around for a bit.

  8. Mines a T reg 1979. I thought T reg was the last to be made. Haven't done the M plate thing yet though.

sure i've seen v reg about. thing is the number plate only shows when it was registered not when it was built. in theory a split could be found in a vw dealership, bought that day and registered on a 61 plate.

    sure that's correct.

good answers so far, with ref to how accurate uk registrations are i guess chris is going off the log book (V5) which of course is wrong, mine for example says date of manufacture 1/1/78 as thats what the dvla put as default for a 1978 bus on import if they aren't bothered with chasing the paperwork, i rang them to complain and they said they weren't bothered as it wasn't tax exempt so the date was near enough! - the vw birth certificate for mine says it was built on march the 6th 1978 in hannover and left the factory for san fransisco on 5 april 1978 so i use march the 6th as my date, bolly will be 34 next year and it's been a while since i've been inside a 34 year old lady...... >:D

i like the print of the m code how do you do that?

  16. I used m-plate decoder and as I'm running windows 7 it has a thing called 'snipping tool' that lets you high-light something you want to copy and saves it as an image
