White paint

  1. I have some rusty bits in my roof gutters - is it acceptable to the learned Late Bayers if i Kurust it and then overspray with smooth white hammersh!te or is there a better alternative?

  2. That's fine... just use a scotch pad to key the old paint tho

  3. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Eek. Hammerite is blinding white and horrid stuff.

  5. A 2" wire brush on a drill is great for cleaning out the gutters. I used Kurust and it's held the rust at bay so far, but I gave it lots of spray coats of grey primer and Pastel White. Hammerite isn't what it was since they took out all the hazardous ingredients.

  6. thought i'd get that reaction regarding hammersh!te. any particular brand of aerosol recommended. i've literally only got three small inch long bits to do.

need to find a paint matcher though for the bodywork at some point this year.

  7. The only way to ensure the rust stays away is to media blast the rust off. You can the red lead or zinc prime it by hand really thick. sand it smooth and then paint it white with normall paint.

  9. you can get rustoleum paint mixed to vw colours at Avenue coatings

i painted my whole roof with the stuff and a roller

  10. Halfords do pastel white in an aerosol which is the default t2 white from about '70 onwards. It's good stuff, for an aerosol at least! If you need paint matched or mixed, most decent auto paint suppliers do it.

  11. Leonard brooks paints, harold wood, very helpful, just try and get a little touch up bottle, free colour matching service as well, 01708 342 560

Or ebay if you know what colour you want halfords are 9.99 a tin now

  13. cheers gents - I'll kurust it and then have a go with the halfords white as its only a small patch or two and then give the harold wood mob a try.

  15. Just remember the Halfords stuff may well be acrylic, which is useless in damp or humid conditions...leaves a finish like a badgers bum as it picks up the moisture in the air.

  17. Thankyou for the illustration.....

  19. In that case, I'll get a can of white mixed as well and do it that way. Its too wet either way to do it this week by the look of it and I'll need to take the van down to the paint shop to colour match it. As the insurance renewal doesnt kick in until 09/01 she will have to wait. Thanks again
