i only ask because my horn is doing my head in , i have a earth lead coming through the column that is connected at the bottom , i have touched it against the column - nothing !

So i have run a live feed to the column an touched the neg and it works - whats going on and where does the horn pick up the live feed ?

on the plus side i have fixed the main beam and the washer bottle today !

depends if yours is a early or late wiring but it comes it from the horn

Early s have a wire from the horn to a tab at the bottom of the steering outer thats a right pig to fit.

Lates have a wire from the horn to the turn signal wiring loom to a copper ring under the steering wheel.

Wire from horn push down steering inner tube to bolt on the rubber donut then a link wire to stering box side of donut

early Matt - so is the wire that comes through the centre of the column neg or positive - mine appears to be neg if i touch a live to it it sets off the horn ?

One wire comes from the steering column whilst he second is paired to fuse 12(?) which has three wires, two wires go to the dual circuit brake light switch on the master cylinder the other feeds the opposite wire on the horn. It looks like the feed wire to the fuse box comes from a black wire on the coil
The horn wire shows up as yellow/black

live goes to horn, through horn, and on to the tab at the bottom of the column. This makes the outer column part of the circuit. Press the button and make connection to earth via the wire down the centre which attaches to the steering box side of the insulating steering coupling.
    Easy. ;)

    if its early

    from fuse to horn
horn to (under the van look above the steering box you will see a tab on the outer steering coloum) the wire from the horn should be on this tab.

Horn push wire goes down steering coloum to bolt on steering coupling and to earth

Cheers all you are all saying the same has i thought so there is a break in the horn to bottom tab somewhere ?

  9. Undo the circular plate at the bottom of the column and have peer down it...

Not getting your point earlys and lates are not the same

Early use the column as the conductor
lates have a wire that runs within the wiring harness and does not use the column

  15. and the OP asked where does the live feed come from...

...and it only works with the ignition on...
It does sound like the wire from the horn has become disconnected from the steering column tab, or worst case, the tab has snapped off.

Well i had it working as it should then i put a stock wheel on and it came with no horn gubbins,i have just scrounged up the bits i needed but can't get it to work, i ran a live from horn to the colum and touched it to wheel nut wire and it works, so i posted up to see if how i thought it was wired is correct.

It seems to be , so it suggests a break to lower tab on the live side .

I'm confused i have tab above the sbox and tab at the bottom of the scolum with a brown wire going through the colum to horn fixing no other wires.

Don't forget its a xover set up on mine!
