what's the best way to get a camper up a damp grass hill?

  1. This is a definite dilemma for us this coming Friday. Especially considering that even flat damp grass can stump the average van.

My present thought is to approach at speed and ride it up with thte foot down

Any advice/tips/tricks would be gladly welcome.

    K to sensible suggestions.

  2. have you got any of those yellow grippy fings, shuv um under ya wheels and and drive in 3ft spurts ;D

  3. a roll of hessian or, we have used 3 double bed sheets! (altho that was with a smaller van)

  4. A tow from a landrover ;-) now seriously, argos or places like amazon sells snow pads, its a short track to drive on, about £10 i think

  5. As said, snow chains, track, hessian, a run up should all do the trick.

Any reason why? Can you not go round?

  9. try zig zagging up the hill rather than trying to drive straight at it.select 2nd instead of 1st.

  10. drop tyres pressures down to about half on the back end, higher gear and less revs so you dont spin or get a good run up comit with a boot full and keep moving (rocking back and forth in the seat wont help but may make you feel better)

  16. Traverse the slope in a wide arc and don't turn the steering wheel too much.

  17. traction mats - you can get them on ebay for a £10er

  18. Use your mats, person each side feeding them in as you go up. If you get spin let it roll back onto the mat for some grip.

  19. new rear tyres

the mud i was in yesterday was so deep it was just touching the chrome hub cap

although i did get stuck in the end and got pulled out by a tractor i was happy i got further than the landrover discovery behind me
