i had solar panels fitted the other week but before work started i had to give them a £250 refundable admin deposit , i gave them a cheque and told them to put it in on a certain date as i was going to be away and work starts exactly 14 days after the cheque is cleared so the salesman advised me to post date the cheque , no problem , i did . but when i went to the cashpoint i saw the cheque had gone out immediately " bugger" lots of phone calls to the company pleading with them not to start the job while i was away etc - anyhow no joy with that until i was away on hols still making phone calls and finally got the installation date fixed for a day after we came back and a promise of the money back as soon as the job was done via bacs - no worrys . Anyhow they did the job and two days later the money was back in my account , after a few days we began to think the system they had installed was not quite working as it should and phoned to ask for a engineer to come out and check it over , five phone calls later and loads of promises - nothing , even now - nothing , we are sick of ringing them but now feel the system is working but could do with tweaking - we are going to ring them again or complain to - err i dunno someone , offsolar ? This morning i got a cheque from them for £250 in the post ! Now then , i know full well this is a oversight on their part and someone has refunded a deposit i have already had back by bacs , But , the temptation is to put it in my bank in the full knowledge they are unlikely to notice this oversight for a few month's even possibly until next year when they do their accounts and after the buggeration i am sorely tempted to take the free loan and give them as much messing about and lack of courtesy as they have given us when they realise their mistake just for the hell of it ! What would you do ?
Wait until tomorrow, today is Honesty Day http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/today-is-honesty-day.23708/
I would send it back. Otherwise if you end up taking this any further they may use the fact you didn't tell them as ammo against you if they were to find out. I always think it's best to be honest even if it doesn't feel fair.
Take it and pay a local electrician £50 to check the system Piece of mind and compensation for poor service
Cash it FFS. You might get hit by a bus before they realise they've paid it twice. If they do realise that is. If in doubt do what our betters would do. i.e. politicians, Bankers! I don't think they'd have a dilemma.
