I use the Halfords 2.25 tonne 'Advanced' 4x4 jack . It doesnt quite go under the roll bar on its way to the front beam (10 cm lowered ride bus) but can be wiggled into place. I agree the cup on the end is small but the beam locks into the slots in the cup fairly solidly.

It currently comes with a set of axle stands on offer at about £45. The axle stands in that package have pads for their feet so they dont sink into the tarmac on the drive when the bus is resting on them.

In that respect they are better than the 25 year old axle stands that I use - they were used with an N-reg Morris Marina and an N-reg Mini that were a rusty piles of crap all those years ago.

Now I have an N-reg bus which is also a bit rusty but at least it uses metric bolts and it has character..

I am scared by the 1.5 tonne scissor jack I carry for punctures in the bus as the jacking points are now a bit nonexistent. It bends a lot when I use it ...

  3. I remember jacking up my Mini years ago with a scissor jack under the gear box, both wheels off the ground. I turned my back and started to lie down to slide underneath when I heard a bump :-

  4. thanks for all the info guys, def going to get one following the advice given, cheers!

  5. 3 Ton I've had 2 2 ton jacks collapse on me on my last but, its not fun. Luckily no serious damage was done to the van, I did break my gear linkage rod though. Even with a 3 ton I always put ramps under the wheels & never rely on the jack alone. :)
