This has to be one of the most expensive out there! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-GTi-/260960387954?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cc2738372#ht_1342wt_1396 Now - not a Mk1 expert - but the whole black VW badge only came out as I understand it because of the Beastie Boys inspired craze of nicking the badges - that was 1986, this car is three years older. For £9k, totally original might not be 100% right - or am I miles off and they all had black ones like my 1987 Mk2?
You may find the original chrome badge was stollen and a black one fitted or they prefer the black badge. l painted mine black on the GTi. Umming and arring about doing it to the Ragtop. l don't however thing that is correct about black badges because of the Beastie Boys. Only the GTi and its other sporting siblings from the range wore the black badge l am led to believe like the Jetta and Passat. l know VW started giving them away for free because of the overwhelming demand they had because of the BB. As Golf's go that is a tidy example. You don't see many like that anymore. Is it worth that?? l wouldn't but l am sure someone will. Prices for old skool VW's are on the rise. The Mk2 has seen a surge in popularity recently. I'm holding out for the Mk3. I'm hoping the Ragtop will be worth millions
I wouldn't pay that but I'm not surprised it's on at that price. There you have a car that can go straight into concourse at Stanford Hall with no problems whatsoever.
Yeahh, at the moment 80's cars are increasing in value, that golf does look tidy, but 9.4K is pretty steep. You can still pick up mk2 gti's for around £1000 (that generally need abit of a tidy) but im sure over the next 5years thats going to head up. It'll be 90's cars like the corrado thats next to shoot up. They cost a bag of peanuts at the moment, but watch this space. I had a mk1 golf caddy for two years before I bought my van which, for the condition it was in i paid way over the odds. I spent abit on it, and then it sold pretty quick at £500 more than i'd paid two years later. I wonder though, for example at the moment, nothing is really selling too well, but due to how much prices of vans had risen people are hanging onto some crazy prices for vans that are probably worth a fair bit less. Where does this stop though? Surely the prices can only really go up so much. But i guess if everyone is hanging onto such high prices there isnt an alternative. Especially with all the elitism that comes with being in the VW scene. I dont know if this post will make sense, haha, but I was just trying to get my thoughts into words.
Old skool Fords is where the real money is with regards to 80's chic. They are worth pazillions of earth pounds. Look at anything with a Ghia, XR or RS badge. And to think 4 seats and a board, we'll call it a Ford cars were not so long ago everyday throw away objects like toasters.
I'd guess it won't sell for much over £5k, if that. I nearly bought a properly restored one with 100k miles a few months ago (Mars red). It was a very nice one. The guy selling it originally wanted around £5k and eventually he let it go for around £2500 I think. I could have had it at this price and was really really tempted, but realised I just wouldn't have time to drive it with all the other vehicles I've got. Was a total bargain at £2500. It really is a buyer's market right now.
Mk2s have been creeping up in price over the last 18 months... Kinda kicking myself for selling my GTi for £450 3 years ago... but you can't keep everything... I do have a very nice GTD that is rarer than a GTi, and pretty much just as quick as an 8V GTi!!
That vw golf is cool but not worth that hot price tag , only wish i still had my mark2 1600 sport escort that would be worth a fortune now but anyway still i got a type2 westy now thats better lol
Id pay 9k for a mint original series one escort rs turbo but not the golf Thinking about it a lot of my car ownership history will be worth a fair bit now
