  2. if you want to be really accurate, then it needs to be done by weight, not litres, (as F1 fans will know) the volume of fuel changes with temperature, but the mass stays the same

  3. During our holliday this summer, 5 people with lots of baggage, my camper used 1,83 liter per 10km

The owners can't change it at all. They're calibrated then locked off with lead seals.

The calibration process is the same for every pump on every forecourt. The environmental factors change massively though which will effect volumes.

So when is the best time to fill up?

Not sure to be honest! Presumably you want it to be cool and high pressure so the fuel hasn't expanded. Don't get too hung up on it, it won't make that much difference!

  11. Well after all my problems with fuel pumps recently (see other threads) a couple of months on and everything has now settled down. After a couple of trips in October was surprised to see 28mpg!!! That was mainly motorway driving around 60mph.

    Usually get around 20-22mpg.

I'll keep an eye on this in the new year when it starts getting some serious use again, but maybe the best way to improve your fuel economy is to fit a CB Performance fuel pump! ;)

    Cheers.

  12. Way Down
    44litres = 9.68 gallons. 338.60km = 210.37miles = 21.73miles/gallon Motorway

    During
    44 litres = 9.68 gallons. 279.70km = 173.78 miles = 17.95miles/gallon Urban

    Way Back
    44 litres = 9.68 gallons 319.30km = 198.40 miles = 20.50 miles/gallon Motorway

    Combined
    =21.73 + 17.95 + 20.50 = 60.18/ 3 = 20.06mpg
    =210.37+173.78+198.40=582.55/3 = 194.18 average miles/tank

latest statistics I did on a trip to cornwall.

  13. 22 - 24 mpg on a 1600 currently using a Chinese carburetter and distributor, with fuel delivery through a Brosol mechanical pump. All items that needed a certain amount of er adjustment before using but have been on test for the past year and are still functioning as they should.

OOps just read back to the starting post 2L twin carbs. Oh well ignore this :))

  18. Soo one really needs a calibrated and temperature compensated flowmeter in the fuel line together with two impulse counters each having a toothed wheel driven off each of the gearbox driving flanges..this giving an input for actual distance travelled. The use of two providing a mean value across the diff to allow for discrepancies occuring when cornering. Easy innit :))

So are you telling me that my bus might actually be doing 35mpg if I get it calibrated corrected?? Here's hoping so though I suspect Rickyroo will still be only getting 17mph
