what kind of spray do you use on tinwear?

  1. Hi all
As the title says, what do you spray the tin wear with? Does it have to be a special paint or any aerosol?

My engine sprays mine for free with lots of oil. Stops it rusting. ;)

Because of that i have never got further than removing loose rust on the dry bits and coating with Kurust.

Some of the tinware above the exhaust gets too hot to touch if the heat shield has fallen off and you have an exhaust header with loops near the tinware. Mine has and it gets hot.

Some paints might find it too warm.

  3. Halfrauds do a high temperature paint for a reasonable price, black or silver I think.

  4. I usually go with powder coating... but if you have a header exhaust, then you might need to wrap it, or put in a heat shield to stop it burning off if it's tight/ touching

  5. powder coat

  6. Although lots of folk say not, I cleaned all my tinware with a wire brush on a grinder, back to bare metal (there was some!) and then gave each side two THIN coats of black Hammerite. Have used it for years and always works. Best to let it stand for a week before doing anything else. One year later it is still like the day I applied it, unaffected by engine bay temperatures, and engine bay looks smart.
